Jay Johnson has only been around baseball less than three years, so maybe he doesn't know about Stony Brook. But we can tell him: don't schedule the Seawolves anymore. They have a long history of upsetting the Tigers. Stony Brook, the same team that shocked LSU to win the 2012 super regional at Alex Box Stadium, was only 1-4 before Friday afternoon's game. But the Seawolves held LSU without an extra-base hit in a 5-2 decision, the Tigers' first loss of 2024. It's one loss in a 56-game series, so nothing to get in a twist about. As the old saying goes, no one goes unbeaten in baseball. But the Tigers were held without an extra-base hit, and that's a trend Johnson definitely doesn't want to see continue. We've also got a photo gallery for you from Friday and a story on Hayden Travinski's viral baseball bat (you'll see what we mean if you click the link right here). The LSU gymnastics team's trend has been to have its really powerful performances at home while being unable to take them on the road. That wasn't the case Friday night at Florida. Yes, LSU lost, but the Tigers had their best road score of the season in a 198.150-197.950 defeat that went down to the last routine. In the sometimes hard to judge world of college gymnastics (and we mean that in every respect), LSU had a loss but still improved its season average and is still in contention for all its goals this season. See which LSU gymnast had another perfect score right here. The Tigers finish the SEC regular season at home Friday against Alabama. The men's basketball team is back in action Saturday night at home against Mississippi State. The big question is whether the Tigers can keep up the momentum after back-to-back wins over ranked opponents. Suddenly, the men are a big story and we're following it closely for you. The women's basketball team had to grind out a 71-66 win over Auburn on Thursday night, able to even the season series with the blue and orange Tigers thanks in large part to the play of All-American forward Angel Reese. She wsa dominant once again for LSU, but the question now is how much longer will she dominate for the Tigers? Coach Kim Mulkey has been dropping hints about that of late, so we discuss. A couple more before we go. The LSU track and field teams are off to a strong start in the SEC Indoor Championships. And the LSU softball team ran its record to 11-0 with wins over Boise State and Sam Houston. That's all for today, folks. Have a great sports weekend and we'll see you next time. Scott Rabalais |
