“I think 1990s GT1 racing cars are so popular today for two reasons. Firstly, they were beautiful and actually looked like the road cars upon which they were based – the livery discerns racing cars today, while the shape identified them back then. Secondly, it’s a generation thing. When I meet people in their forties, they remember watching these cars racing as teenagers and driving them on the PlayStation. It really was a golden era of endurance racing. You often see McLaren F1 GTRs and Mercedes-Benz CLK GTRs at major events, but because Nissan kept all of its R390s, these purebred racers are much rarer and far less is known about them. I love exotic cars and always try to find the rarest, so I’m really happy to be able to present this R390 GT1, the only example in private hands, at Rétromobile.” Xavier Micheron Competition car specialist | |
