According to the latest data, the Gaza war has significantly drained the Israeli economy, and an escalation to the northern front with Hezbollah in Lebanon will make things even worse. Additional defense and civilian expenditures would lead to a higher deficit and a weaker shekel, further fueling inflationary pressure.

The central bank now expects inflation in 2024 to be 3%, higher than previously forecasted. Inflation negatively impacts the economy and growth, making financial management difficult, especially for weaker population groups. The likely escalation of the war would exacerbate these economic challenges, putting even more strain on the most vulnerable in Israel.
