Half a million people are living in camps or with host families

Dear Supporter, I’m writing to update you on the fast moving situation in Pakistan where monsoonal flooding has affected more than 30 million people.
Thank you to those of you who have already donated to assist the people of Pakistan. Your support is much appreciated.
More than 1,000 people have died in the floods and hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced and are now living in camps or with host communities.
“Pakistan is awash in suffering,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “The Pakistani people are facing a monsoon on steroids – the relentless impact of epochal levels of rain and flooding.”
Supporter, I’m writing to update you on how UNHCR is helping flood survivors.
In the worst-affected areas of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, UNHCR has already provided refugees and local families with life-saving assistance, including:
71,000 emergency relief items, such as tents, cooking stoves, blankets, sleeping mats and solar lamps
10,000 sandbags to help households shore up defences around their homes
UNHCR will stay and deliver for flood-affected communities, including the many Afghan refugees generously hosted by Pakistan.
Before signing off, I want to clarify some information sent yesterday. UNHCR is part of an interagency response that is working to assist 5.2 million people in Pakistan. As stated above, UNHCR is delivering shelter and other emergency relief items but is not providing rations or healthcare in this emergency as we said yesterday.
