For Gail Roberts, joining The Oxygen Challenge was a lifesaver — literally.
After the heartbreaking loss of her son in an accident, the world went dark for Gail Roberts. “My life was shattered in a single instant,” she recalls. One month later, she learned that her son’s former girlfriend was pregnant. Despite recognizing that her family needed her now more than ever, she began to fall apart. “I started to gain weight at a hasty speed, which only added to my misery,” Roberts says. “I felt like a victim in my own body.” At 175 pounds, she was incredibly self-conscious and began to isolate herself more and more.
Then she read about The Oxygen Challenge in her monthly issue of Oxygen and knew that it was just what she needed to turn her life around. And as a registered nurse/mental health therapist at one of the largest maximum-security prisons in New York, Roberts knew that she had to be strong in both body and mind to take care of her job and her family. “You cannot achieve a solid state of physical fitness without sound mental health,” Roberts says. “I started in the morning just by giving thanks for five things in my life before my feet even hit the floor.”
Roberts signed up immediately for The Oxygen Challenge, then collected all her back issues of Oxygen she had to create a binder of workouts based on bodyparts. “Along with [The Oxygen Challenge] videos, I had so many workouts at my fingertips there were no more excuses!” she says.
