Like most people who are old enough, I remember precisely where I was on 9/11. The first I heard of the attack was from a homeless man as I was walking to work. “They bombed the World Trade Center and the Pentagon!” he shouted. I rolled my eyes and moved on. Drugs do terrible things to your mind, I thought.
Turned out I was the one out of reality. The attacks were all too real and they changed the world forever. For the brave first responders at the scene, the pain of that day lingered. Even today, many continue to deal with psychological and physical problems. I found this piece on pastors who ministered to those on the front lines enlightening on how twenty years after
the terrorist attack, the spiritual needs of survivors continue.
Of course, trauma is experienced by all kinds of people, not just first responders. Responding to Trauma, is a 28-page resource that offers biblical reflection, wisdom from experienced pastors, and practical tips on how to walk alongside and minister to people experiencing trauma.
