Old blokes in music have had a good week.
Bob Dylan's 39th album, Rough and Rowdy Ways, is his best since 2012's Tempest. Neil Young's long-lost mid-70s album Homegrown is as good as we'd hoped. Jonathan Richman's classic I, Jonathan is finally coming out on vinyl.
Listen to all of them, but don't get bogged down. There's too much more to discover.
Last week, Phoebe Bridgers released Punisher, one of the best singer-songwriter albums in years. Today, Gordi unveils her impossibly beautiful Our Two Skins, a record that sees the artist reach even higher creative peaks than before.
Meanwhile, I'm still trying to catch up on the albums I've missed in the first half of the year: Yves Tumor, Rina Sawayama, Lucinda Williams and so many more.
To have such a wealth of music to dive into is the most wonderful privilege. To have 79-year-old Dylan and 25-year-old Bridgers releasing such amazing records at the same time should be a wake-up call: those ‘golden days’ of music people bleat on about? They're happening right now.
