1. TAYLOR SWIFT SHINES AT 2019 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS: Taylor Swift became the artist with the most American Music Awards in the show’s history on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, while a number of other artists also shattered records. Swift delivered a catalog-spanning performance during the show, while BTS, Billie Eilish, Carrie Underwood, and many other artists earned several awards or became multi-year recipients. Billboard: “Swift won in all five of the categories in which she was nominated, and also received a special artist of the decade award, bringing her career total to 29 AMAs. Michael Jackson won 24. Swift won artist of the year for a fifth time, extending her record in that category. Runners-up Justin Bieber and One Direction are far behind, with two wins each in the category. Swift won favorite album—pop/rock for Lover. It's her third win in the category. That puts her in a tie with Jackson and Justin Bieber for the most wins in the history of the category. Swift won favorite female artist—pop/rock for the second year in a row.” 2. COLDPLAY SKIPS TOUR DUE TO ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: In a move that could have ripple effects across concerts and music festivals, Coldplay announced that it will not tour to promote its new album due to the environmental impact of both travel and the events themselves. The band plans to find ways of not only making their tours more sustainable but also beneficial to the planet. BBC: “Coldplay's new album, Everyday Life, was released Friday and instead of spending months on the road, they are playing two gigs in Jordan, which will be broadcast, free, to a global audience on YouTube. ... The UK band last traveled the world with their A Head Full of Dreams Tour, which saw them stage 122 shows across five continents in 2016 and 2017. ‘Our next tour will be the best possible version of a tour like that environmentally,’ frontman Chris Martin said. ‘We would be disappointed if it's not carbon neutral.’” 3.
