The Advocate's Top Headlines

with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editor

Good morning. We had a lot of big stories on Sunday; let's get you all up to speed.

More information on deadly shooting spree

On Saturday night, our reporters were bringing you up-to-the-minute updates on the massive manhunt for a man accused of a shooting spree that killed two people — including a State Police trooper — and wounded three others. By Sunday morning, we had a clearer picture of what happened.

Law enforcement managed to capture the suspect in a wooded area off Hoo Shoo Too Road late Saturday night. Police say he was brought to the hospital because of a bite from a police dog and an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound; he faces a raft of murder and attempted murder charges.

Meanwhile, tributes and sympathies poured in for Master Trooper Adam Gaubert, who was ambushed in his patrol car during the rampage. This story includes some of those tributes, and details about Gaubert's career with State Police.

How a rural rap beef turned deadly

A feud between rappers fueled a gang battle that turned deadly, prosecutors say. And it happened not in a big city but in mostly rural Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parishes.

This story looks at how police believe a wild, fatal gun battle at a Roseland trail ride is connected to another fatal shooting nearby. And it investigates how a rapper known as JayDaYoungan, who has a huge following on the internet, may be entwined in both.

How bad was LSU's loss to Kentucky?

To put it bluntly: Very bad. Longtime columnist Scott Rabalais takes stock of the Tigers' disappointing football season so far and how it seems to paint a picture of a program in steep decline.

Rabalais also weighs in on the burning question: Is Coach Ed Orgeron going to keep the job much longer?

See his analysis of the situation here.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
