Our marina is growing The City is at stage three of a four-stage expansion of the Port Coogee Marina. Construction will start in August 2021 and run through to December 2021. Construction will occur around the south and western sides of Maraboo Island and include:69 additional pens for boats 8 to 25 metres in length3 new concrete floating jetties A 90-meter timber boardwalk along the southern wall of Maraboo Island including a loading area with crane facilities2 secure gatehouses for customers to access the new floating jettiesReconfiguration of car parking on Maraboo Island to create additional parking bays.Chieftain Esplanade and the current boardwalk will remain accessible for vehicles and pedestrians and marker buoys will highlight the no boating area.
$1.5m Lotterywest boost for Aboriginal Cultural and Visitors Centre The City has welcomed a $1.5m Lotterywest grant that will help fund a unique $11m Aboriginal Cultural and Visitors Centre on the western side of Walliabup-Bibra Lake on Whadjuk Nyungar Boodja (Country). The Centre will provide a meeting place for members of the local Nyungar community, offer a range of cultural events and activities and promote Cockburn as a tourist destination. The Centre should be completed by late 2023. New LED lighting that uses up to 80% less energy In 2020 the City completed trials in Spearwood and Atwell to replace Western Power's outmoded streetlights with Smart Enabled LED lamps. These lamps use up to 80 per cent less energy. The City is now replacing the lights on its own private roads, with Port Coogee and North Coogee already completed.
