There’s Never Been a Better Time to Be a Dull Man

BY JOANNA SOMMER

One of my favorite things I love about my partner is the fact that he’s incredibly passionate about a slew of hobbies, specifically ones I didn’t think men in their 20s were interested in. He has a wide palate for finding new interests and really becoming immersed in them, and I find that admirable, especially in an age where it seems like all men in their 20s do is scroll on social media or make going to the gym their only hobby.

Needless to say, I’m not alone in adoring this trait of watching a partner lovingly fixate on their favorite, maybe mundane-seeming leisurely interests. Whether it be plants, Pokémon cards or chess, it’s clear that having a partner with a mundane hobby is hot.

Cornell Proves Beautiful Watches Can Be Made in America

Cornell Watch Company’s second venture — called the Lozier — is a serious departure from the 1870 CE in everything but the most important aspect: quality. Because where the brand’s first piece was a modern take on a pocket watch from the railroad era, the Lozier is inspired by a timepiece from John Warren, the principal at Cornell Watch Company, grandparents’ era — and one that vintage-watch nerds happen to adore.

The Sun Is Trying to Kill You, Man

Most men have long entertained a contentious contract with the sun. It is youth, purveyor of good times, the motor to our happiest memories; it’s surfing, but it’s also summer camp, pick-up basketball, sitting in the left-field bleachers at a ballgame. These are situations, all around, where young guys are simply having a bit too much fun to be bothered pondering their own mortality. But that contradiction — the sun is fun, the sun is dangerous — is real, and men are dying because of it.

Why are men so susceptible to melanoma? What do we need to know? And what do we do in the summer ahead to better protect ourselves against the sun?
