The Sunday Round-Up | May 23, 2021 Good morning! I had a great and funny week and I hope you did, too! It was funny because my dad is visiting for the first time since 2019 and it's like a comedy show every hour between him and the kids. Here's an example (I wish I had our indoor security cameras rolling so you could see the ridiculousness for yourself since it felt like my wife and I were in a Monty Python skit.) The other day, we were all rushing to get out of the house so we could meet our cousins for lunch. My 92-year-old dad, who can hardly hear or see and requires assistance going up and down the stairs, moves like a turtle. I was trying to get him off the couch to walk him downstairs to the garage while my wife went upstairs to quickly change our daughter's last-minute diaper. When my wife ran upstairs, she started screaming so I quickly re-seated my dad and ran as fast as I could to find out what was wrong. I reached speeds I haven't hit indoors since playing college sports and of course, I tripped over the top stair and stubbed my toe so hard that I cracked my toenail. I started screaming. My dad is yelling, "What's wrong??" but my wife, who threw out her back, and I can't speak because we're in so much pain and laughing so hard because neither of us can believe what was happening. I can hear my dad trying to frantically get up and roll over to us with his walker. Meanwhile our four-year-old son, who randomly started pretending he was a dog about 10 minutes prior, didn't break character and was only replying to my dad's panicky questions in barks. Maybe you had to be there but it was hilarious and we've all recovered, except for my pride. It was another busy week in travel news and there are tons of tips, which you can find below. Plus, you'll definitely want to check out the jaw-dropping travel channel I found on YouTube late last night. I go on when the clock behind Leo strikes 12:30pm. Surprising My Dad Last week, I flew to Florida for the first time in over a year, to not only surprise my dad, but to bring him back to California so he could hug his grandkids. There are three parts to the story, plus a video of our reunion after 447 days of not seeing each other (at the bottom of Part 2) : -Part 1: My First Class Flight on American Airlines 777-300 for 34,000 miles -Part 2: The morning on the beach and video of surprising my dad -Part 3: Traveling back to L.A. with my dad, almost getting a fight in MIA and their wheelchair service The Gadget Every Flight Attendant and Frequent Traveler Packs I'm working on a Father's Day gift guide, which will be ready by next week but one of the items that will be included is something that every flight attendant and frequent traveler keeps in their carry-on bag: A portable charger because you never know if your plane will have a power port that works and who wants to sit around in an airport anymore? I mentioned Nimble on Leo Laporte's show The Tech Guy and he says he approves of it because it's eco-friendly and is made with all the best parts. However, it's kind of expensive even with my $10 off promo code so here's another one that's more reasonably priced by Anker.
