Judge rules company's hiring practices were biased

A federal judge has ruled that a Baltimore company wrongfully denied employment to more than 2,000 African-American employees who applied for its management trainee program. The judge determined that the company practiced a form of discrimination called "disparate impact" -- when neutral hiring policies affect a particular group -- and ordered the company to pay $6.6 million in back wages and benefits.
