What's making news in New Orleans?
By Chad Calder | Staff writer BACK AT WORK: New Orleans City Council member Jared Brossett made his first appearance back on the job Monday since being arrested for drunk driving for the third time. How'd it go? Ben Myers was there in the council chambers for the ongoing budget hearings. 'GUT-WRENCHING': That's how Saints Coach Sean Payton described Sunday's loss to the Tennessee Titans, the second close game in as many weeks. Luke Johnson has the latest thoughts from the coach and players about how you move on from the ones you want back. WHISTLEBLOWER SUITS: Two trials got underway Monday involving law enforcement employees who say they were fired for drawing attention to misdeeds at work. In Orleans Parish, a sheriff's office investigator said his probe into a jailed arsonist’s frequent escapes to visit a girlfriend in Gentilly got him fired. On the north shore, the former No. 2 to St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith claims he was fired for his insistence that a deputy stealing drugs at traffic stops should be handled as a criminal matter. The employers of both men disagree. Thanks for starting your day with us today on The Front Page and at NOLA.com. |
