DeerLake Weekly Letter, Mountain Trails and Pumpkins

I am always amazed when visiting Glacier park during this time of year. We went up for a picnic the other day, the weather was warm and the park is so quiet now. Snow is just hitting the mountain peaks and with the sun shining on all the fall foliage, it's just beautiful. The open-fields close to Saint Marys Lake had a nice elk herd. The bulls are a bit protective of the cows right now. You would think that two or three girls would be enough for any guy. OH no, not these guys, the more the merrier.

We have been out working around the place getting ready for winter. We have several brush piles that we have been waiting to burn. I love to have a good bonfire and invite the neighbors over for a drink. It's the perfect time of year for outdoor fires. It's cool enough outside that sitting by the fire on a dark night enjoying the stars and the flames is very welcome.

Steven and I took a walk along the creek yesterday. It was a wonderful evening, the sun was still high and the colors of the leaves were quite a sight. We have a bike trail that was that was built from an old converted railroad track, located just down from our place, it winds through fields along side a creek. We have walked this trail several times now and it is always a treat, as we rounded one of the corners, there were three deer standing in the creek. Just goes to show you that no matter how long you live some place, there are always new wonders to be found.

I used to think that raking and playing in the leaves with the kids was fun; now I find that watching others play in the leaves is just as much fun. Do yourself a favor and get out and enjoy the beauty of the fall season before the weather locks you in for another long winter.

After all that political junk, I'm ready for some peace and quiet. I welcome back the McDonald's commercials and that little gecko guy. I normally don't make my political decisions until I go thru the official voters pamphlet. I don't let anyone on TV or anyone else tell me who to vote for. Wish we could take all that money spent on campaign commercials and spend it on real jobs instead. Lord knows there is plenty of work in this country to be done.

The town appropriately named has two large pool buildings and one smaller free bath house. All are heated by the thermal springs running underground.

Fall Colors highlight the beauty of Glacier National Park.
We visited Chief Mountain on the east side of the park and lucked out by encountering some of the magnificent golds of the Montana Fall colors.
