In the fourth installment of a four-part series on police brutality protests across metro Detroit, The Michigan Daily reporters went to 11 different protests, driving 269 miles and speaking to almost 100 people in 10 cities about why they came out.

While some said it was their first time protesting. Many more said they were used to protests in big cities, but they never expected protests of this magnitude â or even protests in general â in their suburban hometowns.

International students face academic, career dilemmas as COVID-19 leaves future plans uncertain

The challenges that international students face in attending American universities are plentiful, ranging from intense culture shock to rising tuition fees. Add the COVID-19 pandemic, which comes with strict travel restrictions, troublesome flights home and visa issues, and those challenges double.

The Daily reporter Magdalena Mihaylova talked to several students and faculty about various challenges and possible solutions facing international students as fall semester approaches.

CAPS unveils new online platform for mental health resources amid pandemic

Last week, CAPS announced their new platform SilverCloud, an online tool that provides access to mental health resources to students and faculty. The program features a series of modules individuals can work through at their own pace.

According to the CAPS website, the program is not intended to replace in-person mental health help. SilverCloud was designed to help students and faculty with daily stress and anxiety; improve resilience; learn new skills to better understand thoughts, feelings and behaviors; and reduce the symptoms that accompany depression and anxiety.

Democratic City Council Candidates for Ward 4 participate in virtual forum

The Democratic candidates for Ward 4 of City Council participated in an online forum via Facebook Live Thursday evening. Participants included incumbent Jack Eaton, Mozhgan Savabieasfahni and Jen Eyer. About 40 people attended the forum virtually.

Topics discussed in the forum included protests, police brutality, minimum wage and more.

Espresso Royale Coffee announces permanent closure nationwide amid COVID-19 pandemic

After temporarily closing all locations for almost two months in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Espresso Royale Coffee has announced all business will permanently cease, including branch operations, catering and online sales.

Being voted Best Coffee Shop in Ann Arbor 2014, Espresso Royale is widely considered to be an on-campus staple for coffee lovers at the âUâ.
