With in-person commencement being cancelled for graduating seniors, the University conducted a series of online celebrations to honor the class of 2020.

Among others, the online activities included a recorded message posted on the commencement page from University President Mark Schlissel, Interim Provost Susan M. Collins and the deans.

According to an email sent to faculty, students and staff from Susan M. Collins, interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, the University will implement a coordinating committee and six topic-focused committees to work on specific guidelines and principles for the fall term.

In addition, the email echoed sentiments from University President Mark Schlissel sent earlier this week that the administration is “cautiously optimistic” that they will be able to deliver a public-health informed in-person fall semester.

This Thursday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed three new executive orders to extend Michigan’s state of emergency and disaster through May 28.

The move comes after criticism from protesters, as well as the Republican-controlled legislature denying an extension on the emergency and disaster order which expired on April 30.

The Central Student Judiciary affirmed the decision of LSA senior Tyler Ziel, LSA SG elections director, on two GroupMe messages sent during the voting period that could have disqualified LSA juniors Selena Bazzi and Josiah Walker’s ticket from the election in a ruling released Wednesday.

Ziel ruled the messages were minor violations of the election code, which would warrant two demerits total as opposed to six demerits if a major violation was found, thus disqualifying the duo.
