By Drew Broach | Deputy metro editor SURPRISE VISITORS: Murder suspect Terrell Russell carried a rifle into the Central City apartment of a woman with whom he spent Wednesday night. She said she didn’t think much of it until Thursday morning, when she heard someone bang on her door and scream, “U.S. Marshals!” She fled the apartment just before New Orleans police and deputy U.S. marshals entered and shot Russell dead. MEA CULPA: After weeks of blaming insufficient funding, high crime rates and sloppy police work for not sending more people to prison, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams admitted Thursday that his office wasn't doing its best work. He promised to fix the problem of blowing deadlines to decide whether to charge jailed suspects with crimes, and announced a shakeup in his staff.
