A hefty tab: Louisiana could be on the hook for almost $1 billion if it allows the proposed Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion project to die, state officials say. The roughly $3 billion project to limit coastal land loss has the support of scientists and advocates, but it has been controversial because of the negative impact it will have on commercial fisheries, and Gov. Jeff Landry's administration has sent mixed signals about the project since taking office. Mark Schleifstein has this report. Poll shows support for Trump: Former President Donald Trump should have no trouble winning the state in the upcoming presidential election against President Joe Biden, but a new poll commissioned by The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate suggest his support has eroded somewhat since the past two contests. Mark Ballard has the story. School standards: Private schools that receive state money would be held to similar standards as public schools under a bill passed by the state Senate. As Patrick Wall reports, this marks a major change from the school choice program backed by Gov. Landry.
