Also, new use for old buildings on the lakefront
By Bob WarrenCondo collapse and Louisiana: The condo that collapsed in south Florida isn’t anywhere close to Louisiana. But the events there might have more of an impact on Louisiana than you think, columnist Bob Marshall writes today. New history on the lakefront: When Pat's Rest A While opened recently on the lakefront in Old Mandeville, it marked a new chapter for a piece of the city's history. For years, parts of what now are a restuarant/bar complex had been operated as a hotel and summer retreat for folks visiting from the south shore. Check out Ian McNulty's story. And the cool collection of photos David Grunfeld put together. Crime concerns: Do you feel safe? That was the central question surveyors wanted to know during a recent poll conducted for the New Orleans Crime Coalition, our news partners over at WWL-TV report today. The results? A majority of those polled think crime is worse and more than half said they don't feel the city is safe. Also in the news today: We're tracking a couple more tropical weather systems that could - could - threaten the Caribbean at some point. And New Orleans City Councilmember Helena Moreno plans to push a measure that would require the council's OK to move City Hall. All this and much more in today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. BW |
