Apple responds to allegations of using YouTube videos to train AI

The tech giant insists that Apple Intelligence was not trained by the YouTube dataset, and that it was used for something else

Apple has responded to a report this week that it trained its AI technology on YouTube content without getting permission from creators. Other major companies were also accused of doing the same following an investigation by Proof News.

Apple said it used the YouTube dataset, gathered by a third-party, to train its open-source OpenELM model, released in April. However, the company told 9to5Mac on Wednesday that OpenELM does not power any of its own AI or machine learning features, including Apple Intelligence.

Apple added that OpenELM was created for research purposes only. Whether this is enough to satisfy those whose work has been used remains to be seen ...

The Google Pixel Watch 3 price leaked, and it’s bad

The leaked prices are in euros, but it seems likely that customers in other locations will also have to pay more for the new models

The Made by Google event isn't until next month, but prices for the expected Pixel Watch 3 have been leaked by French website Dealabs.

Dealabs claims the Pixel Watch 3 Wi-Fi model will cost 399 euros (around $436), while the Wi-Fi/LTE model will retail at 499 euros (around $546). That marks an increase of 50 euros and 100 euros compared to the last generation, respectively.

Meanwhile, the all-new, larger Pixel Watch 3 XL Wi-Fi model could be priced at 449 euros (around $491), and the Wi-Fi/LTE model at 549 euros (around $600) ...

The adorable TinyPod is a brilliant Apple Watch accessory

The TinyPod turns the Apple Watch into a beautiful iPod. But it does a lot more than Apple's music player ever could

The TinyPod is a third-party accessory that turns all sizes of the Apple Watch into an iPod Classic, Digital Trends reported.

The device even includes the distinctive iPod wheel. And yes, it works. “Through careful mechanized components inside, TinyPod’s wheel makes direct rotation contact with your Apple Watch crown, letting it naturally scroll anything across the OS,” says its creator.

Because it’s an Apple Watch inside, and running watchOS, the TinyPod can handle calls, messages, emails, news, weather, and, of course, music.

The TinyPod starts at $80 and shipping starts this summer ...

No Man’s Sky is getting a Starship Troopers mode in huge update

Hello Games’ No Man's Sky has become known for its regular updates, and this latest one is looking quite promising

The makers of open-world space discovery game No Man’s Sky have announced Update 5.0, officially called Worlds Part 1, Digital Trends reported.

As with other No Man’s Sky updates, the team is adding more planets, biomes, plants, and creatures. However, it’s also set to be a huge technology upgrade that makes the game look more realistic and dynamic. It adds a bug-hunting mode, too, that is “Starship Troopers-inspired,” according to Hello Games founder Sean Murray.

Hello Games has been consistently refreshing No Man’s Sky since its release in 2016, an approach that’s helped it to maintain its player base. While 4.0 mostly contained quality-of-life improvements and new difficulty settings, 3.0 brought new system types and new planets, and it refreshed the user interface ...
