So this cocktail doesn’t quite have the same historical background and story that a classic Negroni does, but was actually created in 2001 by the team behind Plymouth Gin.
Their version used equal parts of Gin, Lillet Blanc (a delicate wine-based aperitif, similar to a Bianco Vermouth) and Suze and has been super-popular in bars in New York, London and beyond over the last two decades.
We love Suze, and the intensity it brings to the drink, but prefer to lighten the cocktail very slightly with Luxardo’s new Bitter, almost like a clear Campari.
It’s really flexible and didn’t exist 20 years ago when the cocktail was invented, but is our tiny twist on this modern classic (along with a touch of floral St Germain!).
