That was the headline from a recent Wall Street Journal article, telling investors not to worry about a crash of the booming Nasdaq index. "These are the times that really frighten me," commented Glenn Beck guest Danielle DiMartino, former Fed insider who warned of a possible crash in the future. Beyond all the speculation on Wall Street, how does this affect folks on Main Street? Dangerously. As DiMartino points out, Boomers have already learned twice that their assets are not safe in a boom-and-bust scenario. The biggest fear for us on Main Street is unemployment. In 2010, the average length of unemployment was 27.5 weeks - half a year! Even now, it hovers around three months. In situations like these, we can't expect the government to provide for all, which is why we need a back-up plan. One of the best ways to do this is by storing emergency food. |
