Hi John!

I appreciate the kindness people show me when they express concern over the hate comments and messages I get from people.

"How do you do it???"

Well... I've developed an immunity. My skin's gotten thicker.

Also... I still perceive a deep and fundamental unity between all of us, including my naysayers.

I will explain this in a sec.

But first...

DAD JOKE OF THE WEEK

I had to fire our fruit delivery driver today.

We hated to let the mango but he was driving us bananas.

CARTOON OF THE WEEK

I called this cartoon "Church Takes".
You know what? I think I suffer from being slightly naive. I draw a cartoon, think it's good, and share it with the world expecting warm fuzzies in return. So I thought with this one.
I didn't expect the backlash that I did on this one.
But almost 5,000 likes is an indicator that a lot of you related to it.

POST OF THE WEEK

When I share these actual quotes from actual people in actual comments on my actual posts, the response is often hilarious.

Most people get a real kick out of these.

Oh, some people think I'm shaming them or ridiculing them.

No I'm not! I'm actually quoting a public statement they made and I make no judgments at all.

In fact, like I will share in the main part of my letter today...

I used to be here.

The comments are just as funny.

TIKTOK VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Afraid of Hell?

Geez do I ever look serious here LOL!

I threw this TikTok video together because nearly every day I hear from people who are questioning their beliefs or deconstructing and are absolutely terrified of going to hell.

So... I thought I'd address it in this video.

Short 30 seconds.

PAINTING OF THE WEEK

My New Painting "I Will Not Let Defeat"

This is an acrylic and ink on stretched canvas, ready to hang. It measures 10"x20"x2". The blues are just so rich. I love it. This is what I wrote about it: "

I will not let defeat... what? That's up to you to decide.

But certainly the sentence seems to want to say, "I will not let defeat happen!" Or, "I will not let defeat get me down!"

In either case, like this tree, you intend to persevere no matter what."

The Beliefs We Used to Believe

The quote above where someone criticized me and, in the opinion of some, actually threatened me, got a ton of views and comments on all my platforms.

I get stuff like this every day. For the most part they're harmless.

Once in a while, though, I get one that alarms me.

Some people feel I'm being unfair and unhelpful by publicly shaming them.

I don't think I am. Their comments were public. They gave their name. So I share it in public. I only give their first name.

But maybe I should be more clear. I do not intend to shame or ridicule or mock them. Because, for me, it mostly reminds me of my own past's voice! This is how I may have thought many years ago. And, in fact, these voices still might be alive deep down in the depths of my being.

Honestly, I have compassion for them. Not pity, but empathy.

And sometimes they're just plain funny! It's okay for me to laugh at the stones that are thrown at me. Isn't it?

Just the other day someone commented that they used to be my mortal enemy. But now that they're deconstructing, they get what I'm saying and they're my #1 fan.

My perception that we are all one still stands. Including my naysayers and haters. I am one with them and they are one with me as well.

This all gets subsumed into the totality of this unity and the All.

I mean it.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

One of the most influential books in my life, The Silence of Jesus, by James Breech, still sits on my shelf about 40 years later.

It was the book so many people ask me about. "What was that book you mentioned in the interview that caused you to question the inspiration of Scripture?"

The book never made a splash in the theological world. At least I don't think so. It's interesting what can provoke change in us. Anything from a book, to a movie, to a chance encounter, to an event, a painting, a song. Anything! For me, this book provoked the beginning of a decades-long deconstruction.

Here's one quote from it that always sticks with me and I think infused how I think and live.

"His (Jesus') ability to allow others to be in their difference shows that he is confident in his own particularity."

Yes! I love that.

A FINAL NOTE

I love love love you.

I'm so grateful to hear from you.

And please and thank you... PRE-ORDER MY NEW BOOK!
