With a messy superintendent search fresh in their minds — one July meeting lasted nearly nine hours — the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board is poised to place new limits on when and how often members of the public can comment on school matters. Lasting legacy: Elton Shaw was handed an exceedingly difficult task after a federal judge desegregated the schools in Tangipahoa Parish during the summer of 1969. As the football coach at Kentwood High School, Shaw had to find a way to get the Black and White students to coexist even though they were ignorant and mistrustful of each other after living separate and unequal lives, side by side. Shaw succeeded in spectacular fashion that year, and won Kentwood won a state football championship for the first time in 30 year Shaw died on Saturday in Kentwood at 91.
