Today, futures are down heading into the open as skyrocketing energy prices continue to weigh on sentiment. Oil prices jumped to above $80 per barrel for the first time in nearly three years.

 

Natural gas prices are also climbing, and investors are beginning to fear the combination of high energy prices, skyrocketing inflation, and a stagnant labor market could provoke an economic downturn.
