Dear Reader, Yesterday was only Rishi Sunak’s second Budget as Chancellor yet both have been momentous occasions. The Chancellor broke with Conservative orthodoxy by hiking corporation tax, but how significant a moment is it? In his column, Allister Heath argues that the Tories have abandoned Thatcherism with an avoidably bad Budget that will haunt them for years. Among the more bizarre claims in the back and forth between the Duchess of Sussex and Buckingham Palace is that Meghan wore earrings that were a gift from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia.
