That Stinks From Chicken Soup for the Soul: Lessons Learned from My Dog By Kathy Diamontopoulos Sometimes, when you get in a fight with a skunk, you can’t tell who started it. ~Lloyd Doggett Our dog Bonnie was an Australian Shepherd, a breed known for their extraordinary ability to herd livestock. She was superb at her craft and excelled doing it. Unfortunately for us, she loved to herd skunks. We seemed to have an endless number of skunks in our yard despite having a fence around the perimeter to keep them out. Once they breached the fencing, the little stinkers were experts at concealing themselves behind the plants and bushes. We always seemed to spot them in their hiding place only after we had let Bonnie out. She would capitalize on our oversight and joyfully flush out the animals, nudging the critters along as her ancestors had done with cattle before her. (Keep reading) |
