10th Cleveland Winter Beerfest scheduled; tickets on sale

Tickets for the 10th annual Cleveland Winter Beerfest are on sale. The fest is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10, at Huntington Convention Center. The large-scale tasting offers pours of more than 150 craft beers from 130 breweries. The fest is 8 to 10 p.m. both nights. Early admission is 7 p.m. Last pour is 11:10 p.m. Admission includes souvenir mug and 25 samples. READ MORE

Euclid native Kenny Gilbert, who owns Silkie’s Chicken & Champagne Bar just outside of Jacksonville, Fla., has worked at top restaurants in the United States, Japan, Spain, France and the Caribbean. He gained national visibility for his appearance on Bravo’s Emmy award-winning “Top Chef” and cooks for a variety of celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey. Best Donuts in Northeast Ohio: Here are the winners

At the beginning of the month, we asked our readers to nominate their favorite donut shops in The Land. They responded so enthusiastically, we could hardly keep up with the nominations. After another round of voting, we finally have our winners. Donut Land (located at 1321 Pearl Rd, Brunswick) topped the readers’ poll with 24.45% percent of the votes, followed by West Side juggernauts Big Mouth Donut Company (19265 Detroit Rd., Rocky River). And in third place, but first in the hearts and minds of many, was CLE legends Jack Frost Donuts (4960 Pearl Rd., Cleveland). READ MORE

Actor Henry Winkler stops by Slyman’s during Cleveland speaking engagement

Henry Winkler, best known for his roles in TV and movies like “Happy Days,” “Barry,” and “The Waterboy,” apparently has an affinity for a great sandwich. The 78-year-old actor stopped by Northeast Ohio on Nov. 9 to speak at an event at Case Western Reserve University to promote his recent memoir, “Being Henry: The Fonz . . . and Beyond.” Winkler, best known for portraying “The Fonz” in the hit TV show, “Happy Days,” took some time to try a local staple — the legendary corned beef sandwich at Slyman’s Deli — the following day before heading out of town. Great Lakes Brewing Co. to set up Secret Cellar Christmas Bar

Great Lakes Brewing Co. is creating its Secret Cellar Christmas Bar for the holidays. The holiday-themed bar area will be around from Wednesday, Nov. 22, through the end of the year. The secret cellar bar, which will include an exclusive cocktail menu, also is accepting donations for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Il Rione to open slice shop in former Edison’s Pizza space in Cleveland

Fans of Il Rione pizza in Gordon Square will soon be able to enjoy the pies by the slice in a familiar location in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood. Il Rione will be opening Lil Ronnie’s slice shop in the former Edison’s Pizza storefront, 2365 Professor Ave., next to Edison’s Pub. Most recently, the space opened as Edison’s Next Door Pizza before closing just a few months later. Lil Ronnie’s will be the first opportunity for Cleveland customers to order Il Rione by the slice. ‘A Christmas Story’-themed dinner planned at Great Lakes Brewing Co.

Great Lakes Brewing Co. has scheduled two dates for its annual holiday brewmaster’s dinner. This year’s five-course meal is inspired by “A Christmas Story,” the classic 1983 film shot partially in Cleveland. The brewery is holding the dinner on successive Tuesdays – Dec. 12 and Dec. 19. Sparkling-wine fans, here’s your Super Bowl: Bubbles Under Glass is set for Saturday, Dec. 2. Thirty sparkling wines and Champagnes will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. The event, which was on hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic, is back at the downtown Heinen’s. Tartine Bistro, Watershed Distillery team up for bourbon tasting/dinner

Northeast Ohio bourbon nerds can try Watershed Distillery’s portfolio of rare bourbons this month at Tartine Bistro in Rocky River. The Bistro will serve five different bourbons – three of them rare--at its Nov. 17 Limited-Release Watershed Bourbon Dinner.
