It's Tuesday, May 16, and today's headlines include Texas lawmakers working toward a ban on trans surgeries for children, former President Donald Trump's recent abortion comments, and an interview with actor and filmmaker Emilio Estevez. | Texas continues to move closer to passing a ban on sex-change surgeries for minors and body-altering drugs for children after state lawmakers approved legislation banning these extreme procedures. Introduced by Republican state Sen. Donna Campbell, Senate Bill 14 would prohibit chemical castration, such as puberty blockers and opposite-sex hormones. The legislation would require the state medical board to revoke the license of any physician who provides such drugs or surgeries for children and prohibits the use of taxpayer funds for such procedures. SB14 cleared the Texas Senate in early April and, after nearly a month of debate, received initial approval Friday in the House. Ron DeSantis' recent signing of a law that bans most abortions after a baby's heartbeat is detected, which is often around six weeks into a pregnancy. "[A] lot of people don't even know if he knew what he was doing. But he signed six weeks, and many people within the pro-life movement feel that that was too harsh," Trump claimed.
