Man killed in house fire, Houston Fire Department confirms A man died in a house fire in southwest Houston early Tuesday morning. The Houston Fire Department responded to a fire at a home in the 4800 block of Kinglet at Redstart, which is near Post Oak and the I-610 South Loop, around 5:30 a.m. SkyEye video showed smoke billowing out of the roof at 7 a.m. as firefighters doused the home with water. Fire officials said two victims were being evaluated at the scene due to injuries sustained in the fire. They later confirmed that one man was pronounced dead. Side streets in the area were blocked off as crews worked to put out the flames. Fire officials asked drivers to avoid the area due to heavy emergency traffic. It's unclear what exactly caused the fire. KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON Update: El Paso firefighters honored by city leaders for work during De Soto Hotel fire El Paso Fire Department firefighters were honored by city leaders on Monday for helping put out the massive fire at the De Soto Hotel on Feb. 4. "There was over ninety out there and you know with the training that they receive day in and day out, it was no surprise that we were able to handle such a massive fire and have no one injured and no lives lost because of the great preparation," said El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser. "It doesn't happen that the fire starts and all of a sudden this great work happens, it happens long before." Fire crews battled the fire at the 4-story building from both the ground and above. Firefighters scaled ladders and communicated with each other to navigate the thick smoke. According to the fire department, the fire was contained in about two hours. Despite the quick action, most of the upper floors of the hotel were destroyed. KIII-TV ABC 3 CORPUS CHRISTI Home catches fire in southwest Austin, no injuries reported A home in the Oak Hill neighborhood in southwest Austin caught fire Tuesday morning. Oak Hill Fire Chief Jeffrey Wittig said a two-story home at 10206 Rising Smoke Loop was on fire when firefighters arrived just after 8 a.m. Two people made it out of the home before crews arrived, and the fire appears to be on the second floor or in the attic, Wittig said. The home is just off Thomas Springs Road and Thomaswood Lane, between State Highway 71 and Circle Drive. Austin Fire Department and the Lake Travis Fire Department are assisting Oak Hill firefighters to put out the blaze. No injuries were reported with the fire and the road was closed at the fire location while crews put it out. KXAN-TV NBC 36 AUSTIN Arson: Odessa Fire Rescue says fire that burned multiple homes was set intentionally Around 9:30 am Monday, multiple units with Odessa Fire Rescue responded to the 100 block of Blue Drive after several duplex homes went up in flames. Now investigators say the fire was set intentionally and is being investigated as Arson. Battalion Chief Quentin Dobmeier said a total of three homes sustained "major" damage in the blaze. The middle home, where the fire started, is considered a "total loss". Crews worked for about 45 minutes to get the fire under control, and an additional 30 minutes or so putting out "hot spots". Alexis Santos, who moved into one of the duplexes in October, said it took only "seconds" for the fire to spread. "I'd just put my baby to sleep and I heard yelling. Then my phone rang. I answered my phone and it was my sister yelling, ‘get out of your house, your house is on fire'. I dragged my kids out of the bed and we ran outside," Santos said. Video shows flames shooting from three homes under construction in Kansas VIDEO: Officials with the Overland Park Fire Department are investigating what caused a massive blaze that destroyed three homes under construction in Johnson County, Kansas, early Monday. Firefighters were sent to a house fire call in the 11100 block of West 172nd Terrace around 4:20 a.m. on Monday. When crews arrived, firefighters saw large flames shooting from a two-story home under construction in that area. By that time, those flames had already spread to two other nearby homes — one on either side of the original home — also under construction. The scene was so large, additional Overland Park units as well as Olathe, Kansas, firefighters were called to help. Officials said the homes involved were still in the framing phase of construction, meaning there were no fire protection measures like smoke detectors or sprinklers in place. KMBC-TV ABC 9 KANSAS CITY Loyal Order of the Fire Truck keeps tradition alive in Alabama VIDEO: Another People's Parade rolled with an interesting theme on the Eastern Shore in Daphne. The "Loyal Order of the Fire Truck" keeping the tradition alive. The leading float of their parade -- not something you see every day. The 1950 Bon Secour fire truck is the inspiration behind Daphne's first Mardi Gras parading group. "This guy and I we bought the truck -- to pull in another parade and they didn't have us because they didn't like our truck - the looks of it. It looked like it looks right now. So we decided to start our own parade," explained the founding members. That was back in 1996. They admit they were "winging it" until it started to catch on and gain momentum. "And some years after that -- some of the city council members and the mayor came down and saw what was going on and road in it... And thought this is great. This is like a people's parade and they adopted it," said founding member. A big part of this parading group -- the kids -- making it a family affair. WALA-TV FOX 10 MOBILE 20 years ago this week, village in New York lost a block to fire PHOTOS: What now is a park, 20 years ago was a row of buildings with businesses on the ground floor and apartments on the upper levels. During the early hours of March 2, 2002, the north side of the 200 block of State Street was engulfed in fire presumably caused by a malfunctioning wood-burning boiler in the basement of one of the buildings. According to a timeline in "Fire," a special supplement to the Carthage Republican Tribune, the alarm went out at 5:30 a.m. that Saturday morning. Then-Carthage Volunteer Fire Department Chief John J. Storms said he was up early preparing to go to the recreational vehicle show in Syracuse. He recalls he parked at the fire station which was then part of the village municipal building, 120 S. Mechanic St. "When I saw the amount of smoke over State Street, I knew we were in for a long day," the former chief said. "I was surprised how fast what was there got going. It went from bad to worse." According to officials, EMS paramedics and EMTs have administered the opioid reversing agent naloxone 255 times in the month of February. A stark 30 percent increase from one year prior when IEMS administered naloxone 194 times in February of 2021. "We don't see an end in sight right now and so what we're hoping is that citizens will take this issue very seriously," said Mark Liao, Medical Director of Indianapolis EMS. Naloxone is an overdose-reversal drug often known by the brand name Narcan. IEMS stated naloxone was administered 39 times over the weekend, 17 times on Friday, 10 times on Saturday and 12 times on Sunday. "That doesn't include firefighters, police officers, bystanders giving Narcan – that's just our ambulance service giving Narcan," said Liao. WXIN-TV FOX 59 INDIANAPOLIS PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
