KIDY-TV FOX 6 SAN ANGELO Pflugerville to weigh options for future EMS Pflugerville City Council will review options in June to continue emergency medical services, or EMS, and advanced life support, or ALS, beyond Sept. 30 in the city and its extraterritorial jurisdiction, or ETJ. Currently, the Pflugerville Fire Department—also known as Emergency Services District No. 2—provides fire and rescue, EMS and ALS services to Pflugerville, Pflugerville's ETJ, parts of the city of Austin and unincorporated Travis County. On May 1, residents in parts of Austin and unincorporated Travis County voted to add an overlay, or additional, district called ESD 17 within the ESD 2 boundaries. This decision means ESD 17 will provide first response EMS and ALS in the parts of Austin and unincorporated Travis County within the ESD 2 area. Ahead of the May 1 election, Pflugerville City Council decided to not include the ESD 17 proposition on the city's ballot. COMMUNITY IMPACT - AUSTIN METRO Hunt County commissioners again considering Emergency Services District The Hunt County Commissioners Court is expected to resume plans to brief the public about the proposed creation of an Emergency Services District, also referred to as an ESD, in Hunt County, along with the establishment of a tax rate connected to the district. Public hearings on the project had been scheduled in March 2020 and again in early February, with the intention on putting the issue on the May 1 election ballot. But the meetings was canceled. At the time of the latest cancellation, County Judge Bobby Stovall said an informational town hall meeting with respect to the ESD would be scheduled for May 2021 and that the public hearing with respect to the same would be rescheduled for July 2021. The commissioners are scheduled during today's regular session to consider a rental agreement with the Greenville Municipal Auditorium for an upcoming Emergency Services District meeting. WPDE-TV ABC 15 FLORENCE Wisconsin man surpasses world pushup record to support first responders A Wisconsin man appears to have broken the world record for most pushups in a year in his effort to raise money for the families of fallen first responders. Nate Carroll, of Winneconne, completed his 1,500,231st pushup Sunday at the 50-yard line during halftime of the 48th annual Fun City Bowl, a football game between New York City first responders at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. And while the record — held since October 1989 by British athlete Paddy Doyle — still needs to be verified by the Guinness Book of World Records and the Record Holders Republic Registry of Official World Records, Carroll is continuing to add to his total. He has until Sunday to complete a year of pushups. WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL Colorado town's first motorized fire truck restored to its former glory VIDEO: A project in Pueblo more than than two decades in the making is finally complete. Pueblo's first-ever motorized fire truck has been restored. The 110-year-old vehicle has helped out in some of the city's most significant emergencies, like the Great Flood of 1921 and the opera house fire of 1922. The Pueblo Firefighter's Historical Society took on the task of restoring the fire engine to its former glory. "I think it is very important because of the fact that it is the first motorized fire apparatus. A lot of fire departments, even some of them back east that are older than us, don't have their first motorized fire apparatus," Gary Micheli with the Pueblo Firefighter's Historical Society said. If you want to check out the restored fire truck, it is on display at the Pueblo Firefighters Historical Society Center on 2nd and Main in downtown Pueblo. KOAA-TV NBC 5 PUEBLO North Carolina county EMS to participate in Duke University study Every year, more than 300,000 people die from cardiac arrest, but a new study could help cut into that number for communities around here. When your heart stops, time is of the essence, but that doesn't just go for paramedics getting on scene. "Good compressions on someone? A maximum of two minutes — a minute, really ideal," said Rich Burns, Brunswick County's EMS training coordinator. How paramedics respond once they get there is just as critical. That's why Brunswick County EMS is part of a Duke University study to look into the best practices for treating cardiac arrest. Similar studies have already led to real changes in the county. "This is the same type of thing that started our Pit Crew CPR which we started several years ago," said EMS deputy director Lyle Johnston. WECT-TV NBC 6 WILMINGTON PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
