VIDEO/PHOTO: Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis has confirmed that at least two people have died following a plane crash south of Schlemeyer field in Odessa early Tuesday morning. "Witnesses said the plane was struggling to gain altitude…took out some powerlines, and ultimately crashed," Griffis said. "You can see the pilot attempted to avoid houses…a witness said he saw the plane struggling and then upon impact he heard an explosion…some more explosions, and felt the heat." While the names of the people have not been released, Griffis did confirm at least two people have died. Another woman, residing in a mobile home on the ground, was rescued by fire crews and taken to the hospital for treatment from smoke inhalation.

VIDEO: Beaumont Police are investigating a shots fired incident that left bullet holes in a Beaumont fire station over the weekend. Beaumont Fire Rescue's station number two was struck by several bullets early Sunday morning, according to Beaumont Fire Chief Earl White. Chief White is calling the incident "an attack on his staff and the community." The station is at 4990 Helbig Rd, which is just north of the intersection of East Lucas Dr and Helbig Rd. The stall doors on the station were hit by several shots around 3 a.m. Sunday morning, according to White. No one was injured. Chief White says that this is not the first time the station has been on the receiving end of a bullet, and the department wants to know who is pulling the trigger.

The fire started just after midnight Tuesday at the Executive Apartments off De Chantle Road near Fredericksburg Road. Crews said squatters keep setting fires in that vacant apartment. Officials said the boards were pulled off the first floor apartment. The fire was quickly knocked down. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

PHOTOS: Firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze at a building in east Austin early Tuesday morning. The Austin Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 5325 Lavender Loop. The department initially reported the incident on X at 6:18 a.m. before upgrading it to a second alarm as the situation intensified. A photo posted by the department shows crews actively combating the fire, with at least one ladder truck extending its boom over the building. Thick smoke billowed from the structure. Firefighters reported making progress, stating that the interior fire had been "knocked down." Shortly after, they found additional fires in the roof. The building was searched and crews determined that no one was inside. The cause of the fire and extent of damages were not immediately clear.

Multiple firefighters were hurt after a roof collapsed while they were battling a three-alarm house fire at a Mesa home on Monday afternoon. Around 1 p.m., Mesa firefighters were called to a barbeque fire that had spread to the attic of a home on Downing Circle, just north of University Drive and Greenfield Road. Mesa Fire says 10 firefighters were in the master bedroom when the roof collapsed and escaped through a window. The 911 caller reportedly had evacuated with their dog as the fire quickly spread. Firefighters then went defensive and attacked the blaze. Two firefighters had minor burn injuries. A third firefighter was taken to the hospital with a back injury. No other injuries were reported.

VIDEO: A driver is wanted after they were seen on camera damaging a fire station early Sunday morning, according to Portland Fire & Rescue. At about 1:46 a.m., on Aug. 18, a driver in a white 1997-2003 Ford F150 pickup truck vandalized Fire Station 25, located at 5211 Southeast Mall Street, which serves people in the Mt. Scott-Arleta and Woodstock neighborhoods. A surveillance camera across the street caught the suspect drive over the curb and onto the lawn while honking the horn for an extended period. The suspect backed into the street, then returned to the driveway of the station, striking the garage door, damaging it. The suspect then drove over the lawn again, hitting the flagpole. PF&R says emergency repairs were made to make the garage door fully operational again.

VIDEO: Jefferson County 911 is using new artificial intelligence technology to provide faster and more efficient emergency responses throughout Jefferson and Clear Creek counties. At the emergency operations center, every call starts the same way. "This is Jeffcom 911. Can you hear me?" said call taker Juanita Williams. But after that, Williams has no idea what will come next. "We're here to be the calm voice in the storm of people's lives," said Williams. In the past, she took notes throughout the call, but now, new AI is helping her do that. "This is a first in Colorado, first in the state for rolling out our advanced features here," said Chris Hill, COO of Carbyne. Carbyne is the new AI technology created to assist call takers. Hill said every conversation is written out, capturing details quicker than before. The platform can also automatically detect different languages, so there's less waiting for interpreters.

VIDEO: In two places on the same night, the storm that deluged the Northeast this weekend dumped rain at or near rates that should be expected only once in a thousand years. The storm killed at least three people and caused widespread flooding. It dropped about 10 inches of rain over 12 hours on Sunday in parts of Connecticut including Oxford and Southbury. About 35 miles away, about 6.7 inches of rain fell in three hours on Sunday night in Stony Brook, New York. Both are measures that would have roughly a 0.1% chance of happening in a year, according to federal rainfall probability data. "There were two areas that got sort of equally extreme rainfall, and they didn't happen at the same time," said Nick Bassill, director of the state weather risk communication center at the University of Albany in New York.
