A 25-year-old man was arrested shortly after he crashed into a palm tree while intoxicated, according to Brownsville PD. The "major" crash happened on Friday around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Eagle Drive and Price Road. When police arrived at the scene, they saw a 2008 Hyundai Sonata that was damaged after the driver crashed into a palm tree. The Brownsville Fire Department EMS took one passenger to a local hospital with head trauma. Police interviewed the driver, Raymundo Rojo Jr., 25, and determined that he was intoxicated. When officers tried to take Rojo into custody he started to fight with officers. During the struggle, he injured a police officer, according to the press release. After they were able to take Rojo into custody, they took him to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

A man died after being pulled from a fire at a Northwest Side apartment complex. The fire started around 4 a.m. Monday at the Fredd Townhome Apartments off Dartbrook Drive near Fredericksburg Road. Firefighters found smoke coming out of the apartment when they arrived. After going inside, they found a fire inside the kitchen. They quickly put the fire out, but during their search, they found a man in a bedroom. Firefighters rescued the man and performed life-saving measures to resuscitate him, but they were unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No word on what caused the fire. Four units sustained smoke damage.

VIDEO: The home severely damaged in an overnight fire on Monday in Northeast El Paso was previously investigated by El Paso Police as a possible migrant stash house. The El Paso Fire Department SAID there are two men in custody in connection to the fire, a 22-year-old and a 26-year-old. One is charged with arson and the second with failure to report the fire. A spokesperson with the fire department said both men are U.S. citizens and their names and mugshots will be released Tuesday. EPFD officials said there were initial reports of suspicious people near the home in the 5700 block of Marie Tobin Drive when dispatchers changed the call to an active fire around 4:19 a.m. Monday. Firefighters knocked out the fire by 5:04 a.m., but not before the Condition 3 fire severely damaged the home and several vehicles parked nearby.

Sheriff's deputies and the fire marshal's office are looking for the man accused setting fire to an apartment unit with a woman and child inside early Tuesday. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted that the woman's boyfriend allegedly locked her up with her 2-year-old son and then possibly set fire to the apartment. It happened at about 3:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Uvalde, northeast of Houston. The first firefighters on the scene found two people trapped in a bedroom leaning out a window. The woman and her little boy were treated for smoke inhalation and are expected to make a full recovery. The Harris County Fire Marshal reported they identified the suspect and the HCSO warrants division is helping to locate him and a stolen vehicle. The suspect's name was not immediately released.

According to a release from the Abilene Fire Department, at approximately 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, the AFD responded to reports of a residential structure fire in the 1200 block of Shelton Street. When they arrived, crews found a single-story, single family home with smoke and fire coming from the front of the structure. Crews made a quick attack on the fire and quickly got it under control. Four people who were inside the home at the time of the fire were able to exit the structure without injury. The fire remains under investigation.

A 30-year-old fire engine that is seldom used by the Three Rivers Volunteer Fire Department could become an asset for another local department, assisting firefighters in Swinney Switch. Three Rivers Fire Chief Henry Pullin has asked the Three Rivers City Council for permission to donate the 1991 pumper truck to Swinney Switch, which he said will benefit both communities. "I can't fit firefighters in the back of the cab and we don't use it much," Pullin said. "Swinney Switch needs a pumper truck. They do a lot of response with Matthis and Lagarto and this would be very beneficial to them. I am asking if the city would donate this truck to Swinney Switch – it would lighten my budget and help them at the same time." The vehicle is still "in excellent shape" but costs the Three Rivers department for upkeep despite the fact that it is rarely used.

VIDEO: One hundred and thirty years of history were destroyed in minutes after a fire ripped through one of Pueblo's longest-standing buildings. The Albany Event and Wedding Venue has stood on Albany Avenue between East 7th and 8th streets since the late 19th century. It's now in ruins following Monday afternoon's devastating blaze. Smoke began pouring from the building just before 2:45 p.m. "Extremely old timber, dry conditions, the temperatures we have today, the wind all contributed to a very fast spread of this fire through the building," said Woody Percival with the Pueblo Fire Department. Everyone inside escaped before the flames overtook the structure, but the fire moved too quickly for crews to save the building.

PHOTOS: Eugene Richards lives in Brooklyn, but was out of the country on September 11, 2001. When he returned to New York City four days later, he has written, he "metamorphosed into a bruise." He stayed home, convinced that no one needed another photographer surveying the wreckage. But Richards's wife and collaborator, Janine Altongy, insisted that they go see it. "You can't avoid history, not when you're so close to it," he remembers her saying. Over the course of several months, Richards and Altongy traversed the city, recording scenes of loss from the long aftermath of the attacks. Their 2002 book, Stepping Through the Ashes, is a collection of Richards's photographs and Altongy's interviews with survivors, bereaved family members, first responders, and others.

A local fire station transformed into center stage for a Nashville first responder who starred in a new music video from award-winning country artist Tenille Townes. Townes enlisted Nashville firefighter Shannon Wells for a video accompanying "Girl Who Didn't Care," a summer anthem about women following their dreams with child-like courage and passion. The video shows actress Kinley Mosley portraying a young Wells with firefighting ambition before transitioning to the actual 36-year-old suiting up and hopping aboard a fire engine. Along with Wells, the video features coming-of-age montages from groundbreaking Vanderbilt football player Sarah Fuller and aspiring astronaut Alyssa Carlson. "As soon as they sent me the song, I was like, 'Oh, yeah. I definitely have to be a part of this,'" said Wells, a Nashville native and Middle Tennessee State University graduate.

Illinois will take a first step toward reducing the use of firefighting foam containing harmful "forever chemicals" under a bill signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker Friday. The measure aims to curb the use of one source of PFAS chemicals that are tied to a host of health threats, largely through a limitation on using the foam for anything other than emergencies. Fire departments that want to conduct emergency drills or test the foam have to take precautions that prevent the chemicals from reaching waterways through sewer systems, for instance. The bill, a compromise between environmental groups, an association of fire chiefs and industry groups, does not restrict any use in an emergency. The foam is used for serious industrial fires like those that can occur at a refinery, chemical plant or another source of flammable liquids.
