Confidential Fire Chief Recruitment: City of St. Cloud - St. Cloud, MN
VIDEO: A person suffered a minor burn injury Monday when a large fire erupted at a south Montgomery County residential compound. Officials with the South Montgomery County Fire Department said four structures, including a home, in the 2100 block of Old Ox Road were burned during the incident. According to the fire department, the fire appeared to have sparked by fumes from an unknown solvent that got close to an area where metal was being grinded. The fire department couldn't say what exactly was happening at the time, but officials described the site of the incident as a "home-based business." Officials did not immediately identify the owner of the site. An investigation is ongoing.

VIDEO: An ambulance ride, when you don't really need one, can be expensive for you. It also ties up crews that could be responding to life threatening emergencies. As part of our Show Me Your Bill project, Trouble Shooter Jaie Avila demonstrates how the San Antonio Fire Department is trying to reduce unnecessary ambulance runs. At the fire department call center, one sometimes two dispatchers are using new video call technology to see the patient and determine if they really need an ambulance. If your 911 call does not appear life threatening, you're quickly transferred to one of the special, clinical dispatchers, like paramedic Art Salazar. He sends the caller a link they can click on with their smart phone. Salazar sent the link to Jaie Avila so we could demonstrate how it allows him to see the patient right through their phone's camera.

One individual has died after a house fire in Odessa. The incident took place on April 24 around 2:00 p.m. at 6412 St. Louis Ave. The Ector County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene and found a woman inside the residence and transported her to a local hospital. The woman, Tommie Jone Rister, was later transported to Lubbock to treat her injuries, but was later pronounced dead. The initial investigation revealed that 71-year-old Linda Letcher had been involved and was being arrested and charged with Arson. A capital murder charge was added later. An autopsy has been ordered and the investigation is still ongoing.

First responders worked two hours Monday morning to free a man whose leg was stuck under part of the dumpster truck he was driving when it rolled over in north Montgomery County. Efforts to remove the truck led to power loss in 1,000 homes, according to media reports. A Santek garbage truck crashed on the driver side in a ditch and ravine against a large pine tree at Old Highway 105 at Metts Road. At 7:24 a.m., North Montgomery County Fire was dispatched and found the driver entrapped, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter. A wrecker from Milstead Heavy Duty arrived and hooked itself to the rear of the truck. For two hours, firefighters tried to release the man while struggling to get tools into the cab due to how entrapped he was. There was an anticipation about the man's leg being amputated as it was stuck under the dashboard and behind the steering column, according to the Police Reporter.

One person was killed following a massive bee attack in Stephens County, according to the Breckenridge Fire Department (BFD.) The victim was not immediately identified. BFD said the person was severely stung before going into cardiac arrest. Fire officials said the attack happened on Water District Road 214 Monday afternoon. Emergency crews arrived to find "very aggressive bee activity." Medics and firefighters entered the home through a swarm of bees and started emergency treatment of the person stung. According to BFD, one firefighter removed their protective gear and dressed a woman inside the home with that gear while another firefighter led her outside to the Fire Chief's truck. "AMR did everything they could to make this a positive outcome but multiple issues turned this into a tragedy with one person not surviving the attack," BFD said in a social media post.

PHOTOS: There's not much left. There's one less McLaren 765LT in the world after one went up in flames in Upper Gwynedd Township, Pennsylvania, which is just north of Philadelphia. The fire took place while the car was filling up at a gas station. There were no injuries, except for the owner's broken heart from losing this limited-run machine. According to the fire department, crews were on the scene for two hours attempting to put out the fire. They weren't able to quell the flames before the McLaren burned up to a pile of metal and melted plastic. The only body panel that was still recognizable was the hood. The fire department doesn't specify the cause of the fire, but the images suggest it is somehow related to refueling the vehicle. The photos of the aftermath indicate that there's going to be no way to repair this car. The monocoque isn't even visible anymore. The only mechanical components still identifiable are bits of the suspension and the exhaust pipes.

Firefighters didn't worry about getting cancer when Tim Downes joined the Syracuse Fire Department in 1985. He'd wear a helmet and other gear caked in soot, carbon and other toxic residue from fires and think nothing of it. "You were supposed to be salty," he says. But in 2008 Downes was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, part of the body's germ fighting network. He suspects all the toxic chemicals he was exposed to in the line of duty may have caused his cancer. Downes went through 2 ½ years of treatment and is cancer-free today. That's why the retired firefighter helped organize a cancer screening program for city firefighters on Saturday, May 1. It will include a battery of nine different tests at Hematology-Oncology Associates of CNY at 5008 Brittonfield Parkway, East Syracuse. The tests will screen for lung, colorectal, prostate, kidney, bladder and thyroid cancers.

A La Crosse fire station is now a historical landmark, throwing a wrench into the La Crosse Fire Department's redevelopment plans. Fire Station No. 4 has been standing at the corner of Gillette and Liberty Streets since 1940. It's the oldest active fire station in La Crosse, but demolition and reconstruction plans put it at risk until a historic preservation group stepped in. "It was back in late December, early January that we first heard that they were talking about demolishing Fire Station No. 4," Preservation Alliance of La Crosse President Barbara Kooiman said. "We were looking at what option we had to at least slow down the process so that there could at least be a conversation." The Preservation Alliance nominated the station for a historic landmark designation through the City's Heritage Preservation Commission.

States across the country are reporting large numbers of people getting their coronavirus shots, and according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 95 million doses have been administered over the last month alone. Regardless, the number of newly reported COVID-19 cases in the U.S. has not decreased dramatically, in fact, there is a seven-day average hovering around 60,000 cases a day, according to CDC data. But Dr. John Brownstein, an epidemiologist at Boston Children's Hospital and an ABC News contributor, said there is no immediate reason for alarm, since the country still has a ways to go before we see a major impact from the vaccines. "We're getting there," Brownstein said. "What's important to remember is we see these high level of metrics of vaccine coverage, there will be some level of variability from different parts of the country."
