VIDEO: Although 13 years have passed, the memories remain vivid for everyone impacted by the Bastrop County Complex Wildfire. The historic wildfire started in Bastrop County in 2011 during the devastating summer drought that plagued the state. Colton Curles is the county's Community Risk Reduction Officer, and he was a firefighter in Smithville when it happened. "The Bastrop County Complex fire started on September 4, burned a little over 34,000 acres and 1,600 homes," said Colton Curles. "It was the most destructive fire in Texas history." Although the Smokehouse Creek Fire burned more than a million acres in the panhandle earlier this year, the 2011 Bastrop County Complex Wildfire remains the costliest in Texas History.  

VIDEO: One of the oldest and busiest fire stations — Fire Station 3 located near Morgan Ave. and 12th Street — in Corpus Christi will soon be moving to a new location. Neighborhood news reporter Naidy Escobar spoke to Fire Chief Brandon Wade with the City of Corpus Christi, who gave us an update on what the community could expect from this new facility. A nearly $11 million project will have Fire Station # 3 moving across the street in April of 2025. If you are driving down Morgan, you may have noticed a new building that is being constructed— that will be the new Fire Station #3. "This is kind of in the heart of the city. It is one of our oldest fire stations and soon to be one of our newly replaced stations with a brand new station that is gonna be just across the street," Wade said.  

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A North Texas woman is grateful that first responders in Denton County were able to jump into action when she was not able to get to the hospital for the birth of her baby. Firefighters in the Denton County town of Aubrey are recalling the day when their training and adrenaline met with a mom-to-be in premature labor. "They called us from the car because they had to stop and couldn't continue any further," recalled Aubrey Fire Engineer Kyle Covington. The call was on February 11. Mary Popoola was 23 weeks pregnant. She was in a vehicle, pulled over at an Aubrey police substation. "She was very emotional. It was a stressful situation," Covington recalled. "She knew it wasn't a good ordeal because she was way too early for that baby to be coming."  

VIDEO: A driver smashed into an Albuquerque Fire Rescue truck in July. The crash happened as the fire truck was responding to a different crash in the Northeast Heights. The crash was caused by a driver officials say had been drinking earlier that night, and it left the fire truck out of service. Luckily no one was injured, but the video shows just how much damage was caused by the crash. The incident happened close to 8:20 p.m. on July 1, as AFR was responding to a different crash on Tramway and Montgomery. AFR crew members were just feet away from the truck when it was hit. Witnesses and police said the driver who crashed into the fire truck was driving at a high speed. Adding, the driver didn't even try to slow down.  

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Orchard Park Fire District will be using a cloud-based software called Florian. The fire district will be the first fire and emergency medical service provider in Western New York to use the software. The district fire chief called the technology "indispensable," for the Windom Volunteer Fire Company, which is technically the only volunteer fire department that serves a major NFL team. Florian is taking fire and EMS protection to another level with the Bills home opener this weekend. The Orchard Park Fire District will be putting it to the test. "Everybody's safety is number one and our firefighter's safety is number one," Orchard Park Fire District Chief Jay Knavel said. The software will keep track of the fire district's assets, its crew members and better protect the public.  

VIDEO: First responders deal with traumatic events every day. And soon, more of them will get the mental health help they might need, thanks to nearly $1 million in federal funding coming to the Vegas valley. Previous research shows elevated rates of suicides among first responders, compared to the rest of the adult population. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Chief Fernando Gray says unfortunately he's not surprised to hear about the suicide rates. But he says this money can be a lifesaver because he's heard of too many stories like this. "I am aware of people that have basically lost their life to suicide that were firefighters," Gray said. That's why he's thankful Senators Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto roped in nearly $1 million to provide mental health training and support to thousands of firefighters, law enforcement and first responders.  

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The annual Miami Valley Antique Fire Apparatus Show was held on Saturday, August 31. This was the fifth year the show was held at Carillon Historical Park. It is hosted by the Miami Valley Antique Fire Apparatus Association (MVAFAA). Over 30 pieces of firefighting antiques displayed 150 years of firefighting history. The antiques are privately owned by members of the club. "There are individuals that own large-scale fire trucks, who own ladder wagons, horse-drawn hose carts, small fire equipment and ephemera, all kinds of things. They're a great group of people," said Vice President of Museum Operations Alex Heckman. The MVAFAA club's history of holding the show is over 25 years long; previously the show was in Germantown.
