KTBC-TV FOX 7 AUSTIN Houston's firefighter-owned Firehouse Saloon closing after 28 years After 28 years of honky tonk fun in Houston, the legendary Firehouse Saloon has closed for good. In a Facebook post shared just before Election Day, the venue said that the property owners would be moving forward with redevelopment in the same spot, which has been at 5930 Southwest Freeway near the Galleria area for decades. "To all the musicians that made us great: Miranda Lambert, Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, Randy Rogers, Billy Bob Thornton and SO many more - we say thank you!" the message said. Voted the #1 Honky Tonk in Houston and nominated as music venue of the year in Texas, the saloon didn't just boast country acts. It also saw rock and pop artists cross its stage. Musicians would often play to packed crowds, pre - COVID-19 times, providing the backdrop for two-stepping on the venue's wooden floors or just colorful conversation among friends sitting at the picnic tables. Firefighters had owned the venue since 1992. KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

NECN-TV NBC 10 BOSTON Remains of missing LAFD firefighter found in Mexico The remains of Los Angeles firefighter Francisco "Frank" Aguilar, who went missing in Mexico in August, have been found after a monthslong investigation, officials announced Wednesday. The Baja California central state prosecutor said the badly burned body was found on Oct. 23 in a desolate field in Rosarito, according to Border Report, an online news source from KTLA parent company Nexstar. Officials were only able to confirm the identity Wednesday using forensic DNA testing. It's unclear what led authorities to the location of the body. Aguilar, a 20-year veteran of the Los Angeles Fire Department, had gone to Rosarito to check on a condo his family rents out when he disappeared. The 48-year-old traveled alone and was only planning for the trip to last a few days. "Our Department was notified this afternoon that authorities in Mexico determined that human remains recently found there are those of LAFD Firefighter/Paramedic Francisco Aguilar," said Chief Ralph Terrazas of the Los Angeles Fire Department. "This is a tragic outcome to a case we were hoping would end differently." In time for the onset of a second wave of the coronavirus, an all-women's EMS service in Brooklyn is finally getting an ambulance after overcoming naysayers in the city who tried to prevent it from happening. As CBS2's Lisa Rozner reported, 4-month-old Sarah Richter sleeps peacefully, even in the pouring rain. "She's a miracle. They are a miracle," her mother, Chani Richter, told Rozner. Richter was talking about the organization Ezras Nashim, which helped deliver her baby at home. "She came too fast, I had no labor, so I called Ezras Nashim, because they were on my speed dial," she said. "In two minutes flat, they turned my bathroom into a hospital room." Then, 911 had to be called to take the mother and baby to a hospital, and multiple first responders arrived. Richter only wishes then that the group had the $100,000 ambulance that just arrived. Donations helped purchase the ambulance and a $50,000 stretcher.
