A Tyler home was damaged by a fire Wednesday morning. The incident happened in the 800 block of Wilson Drive just south of West Gentry Parkway. According to Tyler Fire Assistant Chief Kelly Adkinson, four engines responded and were able to contain the fire within 15 minutes. The call came in around 11:15 a.m., and the first truck arrived on scene at 11:18. Adkinson said the home was not a total loss, but did take "significant damage." No occupants were home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries. Tyler police and the fire marshal's office are investigating the cause of the fire.

The annual "Battle of the Badges" blood drive competition is set to begin this Saturday, August 17, at Cabela's Outpost in the Central Texas Marketplace. The kickoff event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where community members are encouraged to donate blood and show their support for the Waco Police Department. The event marks the start of a friendly competition between the Waco Police Department, Waco Fire Department, and the McLennan County Sheriff's Office. The goal is to see which agency can rally the most blood donations in their name over the next two weeks. One blood donation has the potential to save up to three adult lives or six infant lives. Organizers hope to collect 300 units of blood during the competition, which runs through August 31.

A fire involving two vehicles spread to a carport in the 2700 block of E. Colgate on Wednesday evening. Lubbock Fire Rescue was called to the scene just before 8:45 p.m. and found two vehicles burning, with fire spreading to a nearby carport. Engine 5 requested additional units and tried to prevent the fire from spreading to the residence. While working to keep the fire under control, "numerous explosions occurred from the vehicles from airbags deploying and gas tanks rupturing." The carport collapsed, but fire officials say there were no injuries and they were able to prevent "significant fire extension to the residence." The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal's Office.

VIDEO: The truck fire that caused the days-long shutdown of the I-15 was the first of its kind in the nation, according to highway agency CalTrans, which led to an unprecedented response for removal of hazardous materials. July 26, California Highway Patrol officials said a tanker carrying "lithium iron" caught fire north of Baker on I-15, leading to a virtual shutdown of the freeway for almost two days. Drivers sought a detour with a 50-mile backup on I-40. The lithium iron shipment was headed to a solar farm in Wisconsin, according to CHP. Officers tell FOX5, they were well-equipped to manage a fire involving the more commonly-used "lithium ion," but needed assistance from Emergency Management and hazardous materials experts once the cause of the blaze was identified.

VIDEO: In late August, the Council Bluffs Fire Department will be recognized in Washington at the Pentagon for their support of National Guard and Army Reserve members. The award is the highest U.S. government honor for employers supporting current and former service members. The Council Bluffs Fire Department is one of 15 recipients of the 2024 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, being selected from over 17,000 nominations from employers across all 50 states. Firefighter Anthony Wojtalewicz, who also serves as a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve, led the effort by nominating the Council Bluffs Fire Department for the 2024 Freedom Award. "I'm excited for the Council Bluffs Fire Department to have representation in the Pentagon. Even myself, after being in the service for 18 years, I've never seen the Pentagon," Wojtalewicz said.

When a 9-year-old Fayette County boy attempted to follow a TikTok trend, creating what is known as a Jolly Rancher Grape, he tripped while carrying a bowl of molten candy liquid and suffered severe burns. "He tripped, and that's when the boiling hot candy coated his whole hand and his four fingers except his thumb," his mother, Christina Blackstone, said of her son, Caidan. The viral trend started a few years ago on the social media platform. It's recently seen a resurgence. TikTokers can be seen melting Jolly Rancher candies in a bowl by microwaving them. Then, they dip grapes into the liquid using toothpicks before letting the new candy harden. Since June, the Allegheny Health Network's West Penn Burn Center in Bloomfield has seen four patients with injuries from the trend, according to Dr. Ariel Aballay, director of the center.
