VIDEO/PHOTOS: A large trash fire in Northeast Austin is finally out. On Wednesday, August 7, around 2:19 p.m., crews from Travis County ESD No. 2 and 12 received a call about a large trash fire in the 10000 block of Decker Lane at a recycling facility. Dark smoke could be seen from miles away. It took firefighters several hours to get the flames under control. No one was hurt, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.  

VIDEO: Authorities say more than a dozen construction workers were hospitalized Wednesday morning following an improper mix of pool chemicals at the Great Wolf Lodge Water Park in Webster. The Webster Police Department confirmed the chemical incident along Great Wolf Way on the indoor water park's grand opening day. Webster Fire Chief Dean Spencer said crews responded to a call about breathing problems caused by a chemical reaction in the pool house, which is separate from the hotel and water park. The chief said first responders learned a contractor had mixed two "unlike" chemicals - sodium hypochlorite and sulfuric acid - resulting in the chemical reaction. SkyEye flew over the active scene, where multiple ambulances could be seen assisting.  

In response to the recent devastating fires and flooding in Ruidoso, New Mexico, El Paso residents and organizations have come together to provide assistance to their neighbors in need. Over the past month, El Paso Fire Department stations have collected donations from the community. These contributions, ranging from essential supplies to clothing and construction materials, were gathered to support those affected by the natural disasters in Ruidoso. Members of the El Paso Fire Department and the El Paso Firefighters Association Local 51 delivered the donations on Tuesday to residents of Ruidoso. "The response from our community has been incredible. The generosity of El Pasoans never ceases to amaze me. We are proud to be able to support our neighbors in Ruidoso during this difficult time," said El Paso Fire Chief Jonathan Killing.  

A semi crash early Wednesday killed two people on I-44 near Catoosa. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports a UPS semi, towing three trailers, stalled in the middle lane of I-44 at 177th East Avenue. A second semi hit it from behind, veered to the side, and caught fire. The driver of the second semi, and passenger, were killed. OHP identified the UPS truck driver as Thomas Hawkins, age 53, of Moore. He was not injured in the 3:30 am crash. OHP Lt. Mark Southall said the UPS truck driver reported his air brakes locked and he could not move the truck. Surveillance footage from a nearby business shows the crash and subsequent fire. The Tulsa Fire Department responded, but without hydrants near the crash, resorted to using a ladder truck to extinguish the fire.  

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Two pieces of local firefighting history are being safeguarded, thanks to the Green Bay Firefighters Historic Preservation Foundation. On Wednesday, the foundation spotlighted its latest acquisitions during an unveiling ceremony at the Neville Public Museum, held next to the "Old Croc" fire engine exhibit. The two antique Green Bay Metro Fire Department helmets will join the foundation's collection, which already includes historical tactical gear, alarm boxes, badges and other tools that date back more than 100 years. One of the new helmets -- "Franklin 3" -- is dated from 1860-1875. It was provided by Retired Green Bay Metro Fire Captain Chad Hadzima. The second helmet -- "Truck 3" -- is dated from 1927. It was provided by American Antiques & Jewelry.  

VIDEO: Firefighters in Shelbyville are finding creative ways to get around town amid some construction in the area. Right outside Fire Station 639, construction crews are doing work on McKay Road in Shelbyville. Firefighters have adapted to that road work, which started on Monday. "They've changed it to one way only, which has restricted our response times and delayed some of those responses," said Shelbyville Fire Department Deputy Chief Matthew Stone. The department has a UTV that is often used for emergencies on trails in the area. After road work began right outside the station on Monday, the department decided to put its UTV in full throttle to help navigate through that construction and still respond to some emergencies as efficiently as possible. It has all of the same bells and whistles in a fraction of the size of what you might expect to normally show up on a 911 call.  

VIDEO: New York City is using its fleet of drones to help warn people of weather advisories. Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol said New Yorkers seeing the worst of this storm will have very little time to tell if things are getting bad. "We know the tri-state area is the target area right now. Right now, you have maybe an hour's notice, and you know what's going to get hit very hard," Iscol said. With a buzzing sound in the background, a drone equipped with a loudspeaker flies over homes, warning people who live in basement or ground-floor apartments about impending heavy rains. "Be prepared to leave your location," said the voice from the sky in footage released Tuesday by the city's emergency management agency. "If flooding occurs, do not hesitate." About five teams with multiple drones each were deployed to specific neighborhoods prone to flooding.
