VIDEO: Residents in the Oak Lawn and Turtle Creek neighborhoods say they were scared when a fire was apparently set in an alley Monday afternoon, inches away from a natural gas line. Firefighters were called to the alley near the 3700 block of Gilbert Avenue near Reagan Street at about 6 p.m. In an email to NBC 5, a spokesperson for the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department said their arson division is leading an investigation, but they cannot share any details about the case. The fire destroyed a wooden fence, some public utility equipment, and power meters in a small townhome community. Stephen Owens lives a few homes down from the fire's location. His surveillance cameras recorded the moments when a man and a woman carrying boxes walked through the alley. The timestamp showed 5:27 p.m. on Monday.

PHOTO: Two people were injured in a house fire early Thursday morning in Converse, officials say. The Converse Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire around 6:30 a.m. in the 9800 block of Delta Ridge Drive, not far from O'Connor Road. When firefighters arrived, flames were visible in the home. A grandmother and her grandson who were inside the home were both injured by the blaze. They were both taken to a hospital for their injuries. No word on their condition. Neighbors tell us the fire may have started as a result of the oven being left on. Officials say the house is a complete loss.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a fire at a church in southern Dallas late Wednesday afternoon. Crews responded to the fire at New Generation Church at the intersection of 56th Street and Ivy Lane around 3:30 p.m. and found smoke emanating from the building. As of shortly before 4 p.m., it was reported as a one-alarm fire. WFAA chopper video showed multiple fire trucks on the scene. Dallas Fire-Rescue said the fire was controlled and extinguished shortly after 4 p.m., and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. This is the third church fire in Dallas in as many weeks. A firefighter was injured while battling a fire at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Dallas last Friday, and a fire decimated the historic sanctuary at First Baptist Dallas downtown July 19.

PHOTOS: A 9-year-old girl's act of kindness is touching hearts in the Georgetown Fire Department. Aaliyah, who experienced a medical emergency in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was inspired by first responders who used a special kit to calm her during the incident. After her recovery, she decided to pay it forward. The young girl assembled her own comfort kits designed to help other children remain calm during medical emergencies. She then donated the backpacks to the Georgetown Fire Department. Fire department officials expressed their gratitude on social media, calling Aaliyah's generosity "truly inspiring." The gesture highlights the often-unseen impact of first responders' empathy and the ripple effect of kindness in communities.

VIDEO: Home surveillance video from a Tulsa living room shows a dog chewing on a power bank with a lithium-ion battery inside. Suddenly, there is a flash, and a fire breaks out within minutes, leaving the two dogs and a cat in danger. "The thing that's important about this situation is how fast you see this fire progress," said Andy Little with the Tulsa Fire Department. "It begins at the top, those heated gases rise, and then, they slowly lower, and you can actually see the whole apartment darken down and then things start combusting in the house." Andy Little with the Tulsa Fire Department said what happened May 1st at that home could happen anywhere, and battery-related fires are more common. "What we know is that lithium-ion batteries, if their housing is damaged, they're exposed to extreme heat, or they somehow rupture, they can cause toxic gases, they can create fires and even explosions," said Little.

VIDEO: Outside the track of the AAU Junior Olympics in Greensboro, a beige tent is there for young athletes or spectators in need of medical attention. The tent is Guilford County Emergency Medical Services' new EMS Medical Tent. Staffed with 12 personnel and stocked with everything found in an ambulance, Guilford County EMS says it's prepared to take on what the AAU Junior Olympics may throw its way. At athletic events such as the AAU Junior Olympics, Guilford County EMS says it most often sees issues such as dehydration and minor musculoskeletal issues. It also has the ability to treat minor scrapes and bruises. The staff includes paramedics and emergency medical technicians, some of whom ride around the venues on bikes and ATVs with their equipment.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A ‘medical emergency' caused a crash in Dandridge Wednesday morning after a firefighter passed out while driving. Dandridge Fire Chief Andy Riley shared that the driver and a lieutenant with the Dandridge Fire Department were out around 10:30 a.m. to do a weekly check of the department's fire boat in Douglas Lake when the driver passed out behind the wheel. The lieutenant grabbed the wheel and attempted to stop the truck, which was towing the boat on Gay Street, but the command truck crashed into a passenger van, another car, and the Jefferson County Finance Building. According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol Preliminary report, both the car and van that were struck were unoccupied at the time.

San Francisco voters will decide in November whether to lower the retirement age from 58 to 55 for the city's firefighters, who risk cancer and death as part of their job. If more than half of voters on the Nov. 5 ballot approve the amendment to the city charter, members of the San Francisco Fire Department hired after Jan. 6, 2012, would secure more retirement benefits at an earlier age. Supervisor Catherine Stefani -- one of the supervisors who sought to tack the measure onto the ballot -- saw the measure as much-needed protection for firefighters. "I sponsored this charter amendment for a simple reason: We can and must do better to address the unacceptable cancer rates of our brave members of the fire department," she said during the board's regular meeting Tuesday.
