VIDEO: An out-of-control bonfire spread to a home on the east side late Sunday night, fire officials said. The fire was burning in the backyard on Vine Street when strong winds caused the flames to spread to the house. Firefighters were called out around 11:30 p.m. They said the homeowner had poured gas on it before it spread. When crews arrived on the scene, there were flames coming through the roof. They were able to stop the flames from spreading to the home next door. No injuries were reported, but the home sustained significant damage.

One person is dead after a fire Friday, Nov. 19, at 1215 Pecan Ave., according to the Amarillo Fire Department. They said crews were called to the 1200 block of Sycamore at around 11:22 on reports of smoke smell. There, they found fire coming from a structure across the alley from the original address, a press release stated. AFD said they called for a full first alarm response while crews forced the rear door of the home and started to look for victims while battling the blazes. They said the thermal imaging camera allowed them to locate one victim. According to the release, that person was taken outside where fire and medical crews immediately provided emergency care to them. However, the occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. AFD said the house was declared cleared of all occupants at 11:50 p.m., and the fire was called under control at 11:52 p.m.

The Wichita Falls Fire Department held its 69th fire academy graduation Friday evening. The celebration welcomed ten new brave firefighters to the department. The firefighters have spent the last 24 weeks doing classroom, clinical and field-based training. Fire Chief Ken Prillaman spoke to the graduating class and they each got to have their badges pinned on by family members. The ten are now all state-certified firefighters and EMTs who are ready to serve the community.

Two hundred and ten people in Texas died as a result of the winter storm in February. That's according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. Officials in Tyler and Smith County recently released this year's cold weather response plan. "Actually, this is not a new plan, and the common question is, ‘Are y'all meeting now in response to that?' Yes and no. We meet throughout the year, and by we there are community partners, not just the fire department," said Paul Findley, the City of Tyler Fire Marshal. Emergency management officials all meet and get together and are on the same page ahead of weather-related events. The plan provides useful information to the public. "It's a very broad plan. You'll look at it, and it gives you the basics on hypothermia and frost bite and things like that," Findley said.

With Central Texas starting to see cooler temperatures the Austin Fire Department (AFD) is reminding area residents to be careful when using space heaters. The reminder comes after the department responded to a fire early Friday morning that was started by a space heater left too close to flammable items. The fire caused a total of $600,000 in damage at a commercial center located at 5602 Clay Ave, per the department. The department specified that the fire caused $400,000 in damage to the structure and $200,000 in damage to content. The fire was confined to one unit, later identified as Suite A. No one was seriously hurt, but one person and one firefighter were treated for minor injuries at the scene, AFD said. "There's a reason why space heaters are called that... because they need space," the department said in a tweet.

One person has been airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio following a scuba diving incident near Lake Travis Sunday afternoon. Austin-Travis County EMS responded to calls of a diving accident resulting in an unconscious patient just after noon Sunday. The calls came from near Bob Wentz Park and Windy Point Park, off Bob Wentz Park Road and Comanche Trail near northwest Austin. The unconscious patient was reported to have regained consciousness before being transported via Travis County Star Flight with "potentially serious injuries." A second person involved was also evaluated but refused transport, per ATCEMS.

VIDEO: A large fire broke out on Bald Head Island on Saturday at around 8 p.m. Three units in Lighthouse Landing and one home were destroyed in the fire. Drone video provided to WRAL News showed large areas reduced to ashes in the aftermath of the blaze. The massive fire took 60 firefighters to put out. Alan May, director of Bald Head Island Public Safety, said both firefighters and neighbors did their part to prevent it from becoming worse. While flames scorched through the four homes and trees, neighbors were dousing the untouched properties in case the embers flew too far. And the call to action didn't stop there. "They stopped what they were doing.

Las Vegas's MGM Grand Hotel and Casino fire, which occurred on November 21, 1980, killed 85 people and injured 700 more. The fire, caused by an electrical fault associated with a refrigerated pastry display case, originated in an unoccupied restaurant on the casino's first floor. The fire was discovered by hotel staff early in the morning when, by that time, it had evolved to open flaming and was increasing in size and intensity. Soon after that, the fire reached flashover condition and spread rapidly across the casino floor. Within approximately 15 minutes after the fire was discovered, the entire casino was involved in the fire. The fire was limited to the first-floor casino, however, smoke spread vertically into the hotel tower floors. The casino was not protected with automatic sprinklers or automatic fire detection and alarm system.

PHOTOS: Nobody is quite sure how long the four-and-a-half foot tall safe was nestled in the back half of a closet at the Old Pine Community Center in Society Hill. It had been there so long — turned backward so its handle and dial didn't show — that staffers at the center assumed it was just a large metal box or an outdated piece of mechanical equipment. And the wheels on the bottom of the heavy object were so rusted that nobody could move it, said executive director Mark Atwood. "It was a part of the place," he said. But when the Old Pine Community Center, which has been the only tenant of the building at Fourth and Lombard Streets since it opened in 1977, was in need of more room this year, they called in a junk-removal company to help get rid of it in October. "A large guy got it rocking, got it moving, and got it out," Atwood said.

FAO Schwarz and the Uniformed Firefighters Association helped bring holiday cheer Sunday to the children of fallen firefighters. As CBS2's Christina Fan reported, 50 kids and their families were treated to a full day of fun. Joy overflowed from the back of a fire engine in front of FAO Schwarz, where Santa Claus, FDNY mascot Hot Dog, and toy soldiers brought smiles to widows and their children, fulfilling a promise made to their fallen heroes "We thank you so much for coming and being a part of this. You make our day more than we make yours," said Andrew Ansbro, president of the UFA. For 40 years, the union has been providing smiles to families of firefighters killed while on duty. Sunday's celebration was especially meaningful to Erika Oelkers and her three daughters, who lost FDNY firefighter Tom Oelkers in May to 9/11-related cancer.
