One dead after house fire in Wichita Falls The Wichita Falls Fire Department reported that a 76-year-old woman lost her life on Sunday morning after a house fire. Authorities were called out to the fire on Kingsbury just after 10 a.m. and were notified that the woman had not made it out of the home. Firefighters found the woman inside the front door and pronounced her dead on the scene. The 23 firefighters on the scene took about thirty minutes to put out, and officials believe it started after the victim was smoking while using an oxygen concentrator. The estimated damage to the home is $75,000, along with an additional $10,000 of damage to the contents within the home. KAUZ-TV CBS/CW+ 6 WICHITA FALLS Pickup truck destroyed by fire on SH 21 in Bryan VIDEO/PHOTO: Emergency crews were on the scene of a pickup truck engulfed in flames Sunday evening on Highway 21 east of Highway 6. Videos sent to KBTX by viewers show a pickup on fire and traffic being delayed in the area. It happened around 7:00 p.m. KBTX-TV CBS 3 BRYAN Fire destroys San Antonio home, displaces family of 5 Five people have been permanently displaced by a fire that destroyed their East Side home. San Antonio firefighters say what is left of the home, located in the 600 block of Hammond Avenue, will have to be demolished. Fire erupted inside that two-story structure after 1:30 a.m. Monday, sending the family running outdoors. Fire crews, meanwhile, moved into the area but found even they could not go inside it. The intense flames and heat kept them at bay, doing their best to fight the fire from outside. "That fire was just one of those that was defeating us today," said Capt. Gabriel Ortega with SAFD. Ortega says a big challenge for crews came from the construction of the home, itself. The frame was made out of wood, which acted as kindling for the fire. KSAT-TV ABC 12 SAN ANTONIO Madison County church damaged by fire Gusty wind conditions Sunday afternoon kept firefighters across the Brazos Valley busy responding to multiple fires including one that has damaged a church in Madison County. The North Zulch Volunteer Fire Department confirmed to KBTX the Grace Baptist Church on FM 1372 near Shirley Lane was damaged inside and out around 1:00 p.m. Chief Tony Clay says the fire was the result of a controlled burn that got out of control. Nobody was injured and no other buildings were damaged, said Chief Clay. "The wind is gusting 20-25 mph this afternoon. It should settle after 7 or 8 p.m. but we're still looking at 15-20 mph gusts after sunset," said KBTX Chief Meteorologist Shel Winkley. According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the fire danger Sunday afternoon was moderate. KBTX-TV CBS 3 BRYAN Residents Evacuated, Unit Damaged in Fire at Downtown Dallas Apartment Complex An apartment is damaged and residents were forced to evacuate after a fire at an apartment complex in South Dallas on Saturday. According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, units were dispatched to a 911 call for an automatic fire alarm at the Manor House, located at 1222 Commerce Street at approximately 6:33 p.m. Officials said when firefighters arrived at the scene, they saw a column of black smoke coming from the top floor of the 25-story residential high-rise. Officials immediately requested a second alarm response, resulting in the dispatching of around 80 firefighters to the scene. Firefighters made their way to the floor where the blaze occurred and found flames in what is being called a Clubhouse or Community Room, officials said. VIDEO: Firefighters battle large pallet yard fire in South Los Angeles Firefighters battled a massive 2-alarm fire that broke out at a pallet business in South Los Angeles Sunday morning. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, calls of a fire near East 108th and South Alameda streets began coming in just before 5 a.m. It happened at the Best Wood Work Pallets located in an unincorporated part of Watts. It's been in business in the area for more than 20 years. The owner of the business says he's fortunate enough to have insurance, which offers some solace. Authorities say Urban Search and Rescue crews were called to the scene, which is standard protocol. Video obtained by Eyewitness News early Sunday morning shows large flames as crews were getting to the scene. Crews knocked the fire down by 10 a.m. and prevented it from extending to nearby homes. No injuries were reported. "You're not going to believe this, but it's about a firefighter who gets injured on the job and returns to duty," said Weiland about his book. "I'm going to compete in the show in a couple of weeks on March 23rd in San Antonio," said Weiland. To become a ninja, you must train like one. KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH Michigan fire department offers unique, specialized training for firefighters, EMS and police Firefighters, EMS and police nationwide are taking notice of the Village of New Haven's fire department, as the facility has been authorized as a National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) training center. "We are the only NAEMT authorized facility in metro Detroit," New Haven Fire Chief Daniel Stier said. "This allows us to teach NAEMT's accredited TECC course. There are others in metro Detroit who teach TECC, but their programs aren't accredited and don't give the students continuing education credits towards their EMS licensure. Our program will give EMS providers 16 continued education credit hours. This is more than half of the C.E. credits needed for an EMT to renew their license every three years." THE VOICE Body cam video shows resident mobility a major challenge during Iowa housing fire VIDEO: Authorities in Cedar Rapids released body camera footage showing what happened inside Geneva Tower during the Feb. 20 fire that displaced more than 100 residents. It is clear from watching the video one of the major challenges in evacuating the building was the many people with disabilities and mobility issues. Geneva Tower is an income-based housing property for seniors 62 and older as well as adults with disabilities. There are several points in the video in which police officers offer help to residents who are struggling to breathe or walk. At two points, people were physically carried down a stairwell. Firefighters focused on the flames while police officers worked on evacuating residents. They knocked on people's doors and even knocked some doors down. KCRG-TV ABC 9 CEDAR RAPIDS Here's what could lie ahead for the US in the third year of the pandemic Things seem to be looking up as the US crosses into year three of the Covid-19 pandemic. Vaccines still do a good job of keeping people alive and out of the hospital. There's increasing access to tests and treatments. The numbers of cases, hospitalizations and deaths are heading in the right direction. If living in a Covid world has taught us anything, however, it's that the coronavirus can surprise even the smartest public health experts, and the world certainly isn't out of the woods yet. A new variant could easily develop and slip past the protection of current treatments and vaccines, setting us back to what life was like in 2020. That makes it hard to predict what happens next week, let alone in a few months. However, based on what they're seeing now, here's what the experts think could happen in the next year of the pandemic. Each of these predictions has an unspoken "variant depending" at the end.
