Temple Fire & Rescue said the fire that occurred at Station 5 at 510 North Apache erupted in the kitchen after a pan was left on a live stove while firefighters were responding to a call. The fire happened Saturday evening shortly after 7 p.m. and crews were able to put it out by 7:34 p.m. Investigators say the station's personnel were dispatched on a call when the fire erupted. Five units from neighboring stations responded. Investigators believe the fire was caused by a pan left on a stove, which was left on. "While we are grateful no one was hurt, this incident shows the seriousness of kitchen safety," said Temple Fire & Rescue Public Information Officer Santos Soto. "A moment of complacency can quickly turn into a disaster." The building suffered fire damage in the kitchen and smoke damage to the entire facility.

The Haydens of east Montgomery County run a multigenerational family business: public service. Kenneth "Rowdy" Hayden, 49, is the area's constable at Precinct 4 just as his father, the late Charles Hayden, was years ago. And marching behind dad and granddad are three sons making their own paths as first responders. Eldest son, Brandon Hayden, 28, is a Conroe Fire Department firefighter. In the middle is Jacob Hayden, 24, a Montgomery County Precinct 5 Constable's deputy. Joshua Hayden, 22, is a former U.S. Marine starting police academy soon. "It's a family of service, for sure," said Constable Kenneth Hayden, who took office in 2009. "I'm super proud of all three of them." Brandon Hayden still remembers the times he spent as a small kid riding along with on-duty Grandpa Hayden. "It was day care on the go," he said.

Multiple Henderson County fire departments battled two structure fires at a property in Tool early Saturday morning. According to a post on the Payne Springs Fire Rescue Facebook page, PSFR firefighters were asked to provide mutual aid at 2:53 a.m. Saturday. They responded to a property on Shore Line Drive. "The sounds of multiple venting propane tanks were heard in the area at the beginning of the fire," the Facebook post stated. Payne Springs Fire Rescue responded with Engine 4 and Tanker 2. They were the third engine and the third tanker at the scene of two structure fires. The units already at the scene were out of water when they got there, the Facebook post stated. The PSFR rescue tanker provided 3,500 gallons of water to help fight the fire, and part of Engine 4's crew set up a draft to establish a water supply at the boat ramp, and they supplied water via 600 feet of 5-inch hose.

A house fire that broke out on the North Side Saturday is now under control, but the damages are extensive, according to San Antonio Fire Department. The call for the fire came in around 10:20 a.m., for a home in the 16000 block of Hidden View. Firefighters said when they arrived, large flames and smoke was seen coming from the roof and they had to go inside the structure to attack the flames. As of around 12:15 p.m., SAFD says it does have the fire under control but some wood did collapse on the home, causing extensive damage. No injuries were reported and the occupants of the home made it out safely, according to firefighters. However, fire crews are still facing significant challenges with the heat and humidity. A total of 22 fire units are on scene and fire officials said they intend to be out there for a while, putting out hotspots and assessing the damages.

Multiple fire crews in North Carolina responded to an oceanfront house fire overnight, that left several parked vehicles and other nearby homes damaged. The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department said it went to the 2000 block of South Virginia Dare Trail Saturday, June 20, just before 4 a.m. after getting a call about flames seen at the front of the house. According to a spokesperson, it was a 16-bedroom house and there were 42 people in it when the fire broke out. They had to evacuate. After the first report came in, the fire alarm assignment got upgraded to a second alarm. This happened as a result of the heavy flames that were showing when the first crew arrived. The spokesperson said there were four additional homes that also got damaged and the residents there had to relocate.

Prompted by the Fire Station 81 shooting that left one victim dead and another injured earlier this month, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors scheduled a motion Tuesday to address workplace trauma within the L.A. County Fire Department (LACFoD). Addressing the tragic Fire Station 81 workplace shooting just north of Santa Clarita, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to address the possible surge of mental health issues across Santa Clarita fire stations due to the incident on June 1. In a press conference on the day of the shooting, Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby acknowledged the "several suicides and unfortunately even a murder suicide" that have taken place by the hands of L.A. County firefighters during Osby's 37-years at the Department.

VIDEO: Fathers and sons share a special bond from one generation to the next carrying on traditions and the family name. One local family, the Aldermans, has over 100 years of family tradition as first responders. The Aldermans recently watched their son take a big step in life. Daniel Alderman's wish for a dream job with Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department recently came true. "Whenever I was with my dad at the station I would always get on whatever apparatus," Daniel Alderman said. His father worked for JFRD too, as a firefighter, climbing the ranks to captain and division chief before retiring. For months, JFRD Chief Keith Powers knew about the wish for Daniel to join the ranks, and through a city program, he was able to make it happen. Powers called Daniel to share the good news.

The Mount Prospect Fire Department has launched a new initiative combining fire safety education with the tradition of summer reading. The department's new Fire Prevention Library Boxes, located outside all three fire stations, are filled with fire safety information, coloring books, bookmarks and other free items, as well as books that can be taken home, read and returned. "We recognize the importance of combining fire safety education with the benefits of reading," Fire Chief John Dolan said in an announcement of the new program. "My interest in the fire service started as a child reading the book 'The Monster at the End of This Book: Starring Lovable, Furry Old Grover' by Jon Stone. It taught me to always keep turning the page. Books are a wonderful way for adults and children alike to explore and learn."

PHOTOS: Photos were sent of what looked like a happening at Hook & Ladder 8 last week and it sure was: the good folks at the Buffalo Ghostbusters dedicated a replacement Ghostbusters sign to the firehouse, since the nearly 40-year-old original was showing its wear and had lost a finger. But there's more, with a pandemic silver lining bonus: During the past year, with everything closed down, the Buffalo Ghostbusters — one of about 200 fan franchises across the country — were trying to stay active with their ectoplasmic activities while staying distant. So first they cooked up the idea of participating in kids birthday parades that became a thing in the suburbs in COVID — after all they just happen to have a few cool cars with flashing lights and costumed drivers. And then one of the 13 members got to thinking: why not launch a GoFundMe to replace the sign at N. Moore firehouse that they knew was in disrepair?
