Firefighters injured in house fire west of Austin A house fire early Friday morning left two firefighters injured in Central Texas. At approximately 12:30 a.m., crews responded to a fire on 8132 Beauregard Dr. in Volente, Texas, not far from Lake Travis. A firefighter attempted to climb the stairs to reach the fire on the second floor, but they ended up falling through to the ground below. They were taken to a hospital in Round Rock for minor injuries and are expected to make a full recovery. Meanwhile, a second firefighter was also treated on scene after overheating. They did not require further medical assistance. The stairs reportedly collapsed because of current construction happening at the residence. The fire eventually rose to the attic but has since been put out. There is no known cause at this time. KVUE-TV ABC 24 AUSTIN San Antonio firefighters respond to massive structure fire near downtown San Antonio firefighters were battling a massive fire not far from The DoSeum. The fire broke out around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 30 on the 1100 block of East Mulberry Avenue near Broadway. The San Antonio Fire Department active incidents page shows about 30 units were called out to the fire. A handful of fire trucks and several emergency vehicles lined Mulberry Avenue, blocking off access to the quiet neighborhood street next door to The DoSeum. Information from a San Antonio Fire Department spokesperson reveals firefighters started to fight the fire defensively. The flames were contained to the single abandoned home, which firefighters say was boarded up prior to the ignition. Locals speculated that a squatter or two may have made their way in and out over time. MYSA City of Dallas employee rescued from fast-moving floodwaters while working at park VIDEO: On Thursday, a City of Dallas employee had to be escorted out of fast-moving floodwaters by Dallas Fire-Rescue after their truck got stuck at a park where they were making repairs. The employee, Marcus Williams, told WFAA that he was at Moss Soccer Park along Greenville Ave., making repairs to a restroom, when adjacent White Rock Creek began to swell, putting most of the park underwater. Williams said he got in his truck and tried to leave, but the vehicle got stuck, so he called for help. "I saw the water was getting high--so I was trying to come back, but my truck got stuck, and there was nothing I could do," Williams said. "They wanted me to stay in the truck when I called in what was happening. DFR walked out to the truck with a raft and told me to leave the keys in the truck, then brought me back to where it was like a foot of water where I could walk away." WFAA-TV ABC 8 DALLAS The Woodlands Fire Department: Multiple lanes on both sides of I-45 N reopen after fiery 18-wheeler crash PHOTOS: Crews have cleared the aftermath of a fiery crash involving an overturned 18-wheeler Thursday morning. Lt. Scott Spencer with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said all southbound main lanes of I-45 near Rayford and Sawdust were shut down, and multiple northbound lanes were also impacted. SkyEye flew over the active scene, where the truck's cab had landed on the inside lanes of the freeway's northbound lanes. The Woodlands Fire Department said it received reports of the big rig flipping over and catching fire just before 10 a.m. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames while the driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. Hazmat teams also assisted with a large diesel spill. KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

VIDEO: Fire rips through horse stables in Massachusetts A six-alarm fire on Thursday night destroyed several buildings that were part of a Templeton, Massachusetts, horse farm, video from the scene showed. Fire tore through several buildings at the Liberty-Belle Stables on Patriots Road in Templeton. Templeton firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving reports of heavy fire in the area between the house and the horse barn. "First arriving, crews did a very, very good job getting the horses out safely," Deputy Chief Rick Paine with the Templeton Fire Department said. "All the horses were accounted for." Paine said the flames very quickly spread to the first barn and worked their way into the riding stable. Paine said flames were shooting 40 to 50 feet in the air, along with intense heat. "Both horse farms in the riding arena were a total loss," Paine said. WCVB-TV ABC 5 BOSTON Firefighting named most physically demanding job by Bureau of Labor Statistics Many firefighters enter the profession because of their passion of helping and serving others, but according to research, they're doing it at the risk of their own health and safety. "I'll be honest, I wasn't very surprised. I've been in the profession for 24 years now and not in a sense of comparing it to others, but I just know the demands that come along with it," said Shreveport firefighter Brandon Lee. Firefighting is the most physically demanding job in the country. That's according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which tracked the physical requirements of about 480 jobs at more than 56,000 workplaces. "I think they've shown studies before where even just a 30-minute time frame, the type of work we do equates to a seven- or eight-hour work time frame for the average physical activity," said Caddo Fire District 4 Chief Chad Falls. KTBS-TV ABC 3 SHREVEPORT South Carolina: What's next for Columbia's biggest fire hydrant? VIDEO: The Busted Plug sculpture - one of city's most known landmarks - still hasn't been relocated. The 40-foot metal fire hydrant was created by well known Columbia artist, Blue Sky, but was taken down with little indication on where it would be put next. In February of last year, the city of Columbia commissioned a construction company called McClam & Associates to remove the sculpture off Taylor Street and keep it in storage until the city decided what they were going to do with it. "We aren't being paid to leave it on our property, we are just allowing the city to leave it here until they move it. I haven't been told where they will put it, but I am told they will be relocating it," said Rusty McClam, the president of the company. WIS-TV NBC/CW 10 COLUMBIA Survey says 1 in 4 Floridians would ignore hurricane evacuation warnings VIDEO: One in four Floridians would ignore hurricane evacuation warnings, according to a new AAA survey. Hurricane season starts Saturday and forecasters predict it could be one of the busiest on record. Preparation is key during hurricane season, which includes knowing your evacuation route. But most people also say they would only evacuate for a Category 3 storm or stronger. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasters predict this Atlantic hurricane season will be above average. They say unprecedented ocean heat and a brewing La Nina are factors. A new AAA survey says a quarter of people living in Florida would not evacuate if a hurricane was approaching. The top reasons include people wanting to stay and fix any damage to their home or property, belief that a storm would turn away from their direction and that they would not know where to go.
