Firefighters made a grim discovery Thursday night as they battled an RV fire outside New Caney. Crews were called to Royal Coach Lane and found the RV was fully engulfed when they arrived, according to Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office investigator Trey Baxter. The man's body was found in the kitchen area of the RV as firefighters finished dousing the flames, Baxter said. The identity of the victim, a 51-year-old man, was not immediately released, though authorities believe he was the RV's owner. An autopsy was ordered to determine his exact cause of death. Investigators were still looking into how the fire started. KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON Flowers gently rest in the door of BF White Motor Company, the local Ford dealership in Stanton. It is a somber tribute to the lives of Danny Ireton and Allan Carby. On Wednesday, Danny was killed and Allan was hospitalized after their Martin County Volunteer Fire Department truck collided with a semi towing a tractor trailer, according to the Department of Public Safety. The accident happened on FM 3113. According to Danny's coworker and best friend at the dealership, Danny owned the business. Allan works there as a technician. Across the town, the message is the same: Danny will be sorely missed, and many are praying for the recovery of Allan. "Driving by the Ford house, you're going to see an emptiness," said Briana Ellison. "There is going to be a hole in the town and it's one of those holes you just don't fill." KMID-TV ABC 2 MIDLAND An off-duty EMT was at the right place at the right time on his drive home on Wednesday when he came upon a car crash along Hwy 59 in the Kingwood area. Dustin Wood's heroic actions at the scene are what Atascocita Fire say helped saved the life of a man who went into cardiac arrest after a crash. Wood says he was on his normal route home when he came across the crash. "As I got closer, I noticed a middle-aged man laying on the concrete," Wood said. Initially, Wood said he couldn't get to the man, but after taking some loops around the area, he was able to reach him and quickly jumped into action. "I noticed bystanders were doing CPR at that point," Wood said. "I have a department-issued jump bag and AED [ an automated external defibrillator], immediately grabbed that and ran to the side of the patient." KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON After more than six years as League City's fire chief and 48 years as a firefighter, Gary Warren has retired as of July 30. Warren helped the department reduce response times and increase membership to the all-volunteer department, among other accomplishments. Warren spoke with Community Impact Newspaper about his time with the department. Q1: The department has seen substantial growth in volunteers. What as your role in that? The volunteers, we can't order them around. What you have to do is sell them on different ideas, and I sold them on the fact that if they wanted to remain volunteer, it would be really important for the department to grow with their membership so they'd be able to keep up because eventually we're going to have to add another station to the southwest; we're going need to be able to put firefighters there. COMMUNITY IMPACT NEWSPAPER HOUSTON Texas A&M Forest Service continues to send firefighters, overhead and equipment to respond to wildfires burning across the country. Since June, 174 agency personnel have responded to wildfire incidents in other states. Currently, more than 50 agency employees are assisting with suppression efforts in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. There are 100 large fires burning across the United States, nearly all of them in the west, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. More than 21,000 wildland firefighters and overhead support are committed to these incidents. "Our experienced personnel will continue to bolster wildfire response across the country," said Al Davis, Texas A&M Forest Service Interim Director. KIAH-TV CW 39 HOUSTON |

VIDEO: Jon Stewart is featured in the trailer for No Responders Left Behind, a new documentary on the fight for first responders of the September 11th attacks to receive healthcare benefits. The documentary is largely focused on the work of activist John Feal and his FealGood Foundation, which has worked to reclaim healthcare rights for the thousands of first responders who are suffering from life-threatening and debilitating illnesses due to the toxins released at Ground Zero on 9/11. "I see these guys, married with kids, who are losing their houses, their health," Feal says in a scene in front of the 9/11 Memorial in New York. In solidarity with Feal, Stewart fiercely spoke out against the failures of Congress to help 9/11 survivors in a highly publicized 2019 hearing. "When something like this takes this long, and is this hard, something is wrong with that system," Stewart notes later in an on-camera interview. ROLLING STONE VIDEO/PHOTOS: Officials are calling a fire that destroyed several vehicles and damaged a Decatur apartment building suspicious. Crews arrived at about 2:15 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of West Macon Street. A dashcam video released Thursday afternoon by the Decatur Fire Department shows firefighters arriving to find a carport ablaze and thick, black smoke rising into the night sky. Overhead power and cable lines were on fire, as were the vehicles parked under the enclosure. "Crews deployed attack lines to extinguish the fire and protect the apartment building from fire spread," Deputy Fire Chief Jim Ohl said in a statement. "The parking garage was heavily damaged and the apartment building only had minor heat damage and was not involved in the fire." THE HERALD & REVIEW PHOTOS: Due to their construction that features a large primary battery and high-voltage wiring, electric cars need to be approached differently by emergency services in the event of an accident. For instance, first responders have to know where they should attempt to cut in order to free trapped occupants, and the XC40 Recharge will help them practice quick and safe extrication procedures. Present at the handover event, alongside Volvo USA's President and CEO, Anders Gustafsson, and VP of the Northeast Region, Eric Miller, Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro thanked the Swedish automaker for the donation. AUTO EVOLUTION VIDEO: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Mana Mobile food truck is making a few stops in St. Louis as part of a nationwide tour to celebrate first responders. Thursday afternoon it was parked at the fire station downtown. The Rock's food truck pulled up a little before 4 p.m. Firefighters at St. Louis Fire Department House No. 2 have been enjoying the complimentary tacos. This is all part of The Great American Mana Mobile Road Trip where they are making stops in towns, communities, and cities across the country. Stops include military bases, firehouses, and hospitals to show gratitude to our first responders. Also along the way, the Mana Mobile will be stopping at main streets across America to help encourage people to support local businesses, many of which have been hit hard by the pandemic. KTVI-TV FOX 2 ST. LOUIS VIDEO: Doctors and the CDC report that the Delta variant of COVID-19 spreads as easily as chickenpox, but what exactly does that look like when it's transmitted from person to person? Dr. James Lawler sees patients at Nebraska Medicine on a daily basis. He explained in simple terms, if someone is infected with the COVID-19 Delta variant, it attaches to cells in our respiratory system, lining our airways and our lungs. Dr. Lawler said the variant then "hijacks" the cell, causing it to spread to others quickly. "What happens is it releases its RNA," Dr. Lawler said while in front of a big screen of 3-D animations. "The cell then uses its ribosome to turn that RNA into virus protein." He went on to explain how these steps lead to infection, "The virus is essentially hijacking the cell to turn it into a virus factory. This is making thousands and thousands of copies of viruses in the golgi apparatus and turns into new virus particles and variants, and then, they come out of this cell and go on to infect other cells."
