That's why we just opened our new temporary exhibition about the DDR cult car »Trabant« in the foyer of the museum. 26 personal stories take you on an exciting ride through the history of a very special and, by many people, beloved car. On August 31, it is time for the Long Night of Museums. The DDR Museum has prepared an entertaining programme for the whole family. We look forward to welcome many big and small visitors in that very special night. We wish you a pleasant and relaxing summer. The team of the DDR Museum ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ New temporary exhibition in the foyer »My Trabi – 26 two-stroke stories« ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ The number 26 runs through the history of the DDR car Trabant 601: It had 26 hp, a 26-liter tank and after 26 years production ceased in 1990. The Trabant, which means »companion«, had actually accompanied the life of many DDR citizens: first as a dream, then after a waiting period of up to 16 years as a new car, unless they had already bought a used car for a high surcharge. In small showcases, the DDR Museum shares 26 of these personal memories of the Trabant 601, the most frequently driven car in the DDR. The temporary exhibition will be on display in the foyer of the DDR Museum until September 15, 2019. Admission to the special exhibition is free of charge. The texts are in English and German. ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ Long Night of Museums in the DDR Museum on August 31, 2019, 6 pm until 2 am ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ Visitors to the DDR Museum can be creative at this year's Long Night of Museums: Under the motto »Bau-Haus« (build a house) everyone interested is cordially invited to create their own building with PEBE plug-ins from the museum's collection and share a picture of their building online under the hashtag #ddrmuseum. In addition, they can guess mysterious objects from the collection. A special highlight: The collection presents a treasure on the subject of »Bauhaus« exclusively as object of the month in the foyer of the museum. Please note: Only the tickets of the Long Night of Museums apply in that night. ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ New to the shop ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ »DDR Guide« in new languages The »DDR Guide – A Companion to the Permanent Exhibition« is now available in French and (modern) Chinese in the shop of the DDR Museum or in the online shop for 5.90 euros in addition to the German and English edition. As an e-book you can download the guide in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian and (modern) Chinese for 2.99 Euro. ­ ­ ­ ­ New 0 Euro Souvenir Note The sixth, redesigned edition of the popular 0 Euro Souvenir Note is now available. The collector's item designed by the DDR Museum can be purchased at the vending machine in the shop of the DDR Museum for 2 euros or in the online shop for 4.90 euros. The sixth edition is limited to 10,000 notes.
