Hi John,

Telstra has shed 1088 full-time jobs over the past six months leaving it with 32,551 full-time equivalent staff members. And it blames the impact of the NBN.

Last week, Lenovo reported a big drop in profits for the third quarter of its current fiscal year, with a drop of 67% to US$98 million. With such poor quality products that it produces these days, the losses should not surprise, according to Sam Varghese.

One would think that for the political class in the two main Australian parties the NBN is not important. Both major Australian political parties are refusing to make any comment about the controversial comments made by NBN Co chief executive Bill Morrow last week, despite repeated questioning.

Not all large Australian telcos are doing badly. Vocus has achieved record revenues and profits for the six months to the end of December last year on the back of the acquisitions of Nextgen and the M2 group of companies.

Apple has filed a list of 14 objections with the European Court of Appeals, saying that the European Commission's decision to slap it with a €13 billion (A$19.73 billion) bill for back taxes is wrong, violates law and should be withdrawn.

US telecommunications giant Verizon and Yahoo! have agreed on a reduction of US$350 million in the price which the former will pay for some assets of the latter, a deal that was made in July last year.

And of course, there's plenty more so for all the news visit www.itwire.com.
