Friend, I’ll keep this brief: The Boston Globe and the Los Angeles Times are two of the largest papers in the country who are keeping their coronavirus coverage locked behind a paywall. Tell The Boston Globe and the LA Times to completely drop the paywall for all coronavirus coverage. We are in the midst of a global pandemic where many major outlets — New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and more — have dropped their paywalls for updates on the coronavirus pandemic. Given the patchwork federal response, getting up-to-date reliable local information is critical and we applaud these papers for putting aside their business model to better serve the public. Journalists are working hard around the clock and many are delivering exceptional coverage. But in order to ensure that the most vulnerable can get essential public health information, and that misinformation does not dominate social platforms, we need to make sure quality, trustworthy journalism is accessible to all. Drop the paywall so that everyone can access information during the pandemic. There’s a lot of uncertainty this moment but this one is pretty cut and dry: everyone needs access to information about what is happening in their communities. It’s a matter of life and death. Thanks, Candace and the rest of the Free Press team freepress.net P.S. Take action now — tell The Boston Globe and LA Times to drop the paywall. |
