“Mom, I’m scared.” That’s the text message Alexis Lose of Ashtabula County received late last month when she was waiting for her son’s airplane to arrive in Cleveland from Tampa, Florida, for a holiday visit. Her 16-year-old son, Logan, was flying alone and was mistakenly put on a plane going to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Logan, traveling without an adult for the first time, didn’t realize he was on the wrong airplane until he heard an overhead announcement that the Frontier Airlines plane was preparing to land in Puerto Rico. Airports are a hectic and overwhelming place, especially for a teenager. I remember the thrill of flying from Arizona to Orlando, Fla., as a high school senior to visit a friend and in the rush of landing and getting my bag, I somehow lost my paper ticket for my flight back home. Yes, it was a paper ticket and in those days, so when lost, it’s gone forever — with no record of purchase or reissue option. Elation turned to fear when I called my mom and dad and learned they had to buy a new one-way ticket. I’m sure they made me do extra chores for months after that spring break trip. How did this happen to Logan, and did he make it to Ohio for the holidays? cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer spoke to Logan on Tuesday. — Kristen Davis |
