UPDATE: The teen killed in the crash has been identified as Nathan Jacob Ochoa. (Previously) San Antonio police said a 15-year-old boy died when an SUV carrying eight people crashed on the far Northwest Side. The crash occurred around 4:45 a.m. Sunday at the Interstate 10 and La Cantera Parkway exit. According to police, officers received a call at 4:17 a.m. for individuals trying to steal a car near I-10 West and Spectrum 1. They also got a description of a suspect vehicle, which was the SUV, according to a police report. Officers arrived and attempted to stop the SUV, but the driver fled and began to speed down Interstate 10. Another officer spotted the SUV being driven at a high rate of speed near the UTSA Boulevard exit. Moments later, that officer saw the driver lose control of the SUV, crash into a wall and roll over at the La Cantera exit before it flipped into a grassy median. The driver and two others attempted to run from the scene, but were caught by officers, according to the report. The 15-year-old who was killed in the crash was pronounced dead at the scene. Everyone else was transported to University Hospital with varying injuries, police said. Police believe all eight people inside were teenagers and no one was wearing a seat belt. "We feel that the driver may have overcorrected at some point, deciding if they were going to exit or not," said Officer Doug Greene, spokesperson with SAPD. "All of those factors played into this vehicle wrecking out and rolling over." According to the police report, the driver will be charge with intoxication assault, manslaughter and evading arrest. All of the individuals are also suspects in the original burglary and vehicle incident, police said. The names of the victim and anyone else involved, including the driver, have not been released. "Parents, coaches, teachers, family members, look at this situation and have a serious conversation with your young people, especially those who are getting involved in criminal activity," Greene said. "Here's a young person who had their life cut short for, in my opinion, senseless activity."
